The Idiocracy is happening. Won't be long before it's "BRAWNO!!!, It's got what fish crave!"

Re: Protecting Fingers
Have been bitten by 1"(yes inch) GSPs at work. Feels like a mild bee sting and does sometimes draw blood. I swat at them when cleaning their tank, but there's always one brave one and the rest will follow it right back to the big piece of meat being offered up to them.

Re: What is wrong with people! some should not keep fish
I work in a lfs. One of my favorites was the woman who complained how every fish she ever bought died. Upon questioning she admitted having no heater, an under sized filter, and an over crowded tank. Her idea of cleaning was stripping the tank down every month and bleaching, scrubbing, and boiling e...

Re: Sumps on puffer tanks?
I've done both and would go sump over canister every time. 75g runs on a sump filled with spathophylum and also contains the heater and a u.v. sterilizer. 26g runs on an old cpr back pack. Also holds the heater and some arrowhead plants. They keep my tanks clean and clutter free and I don't have to ...

Re: Holes in Java Fern (F8)
Had a figure 8 years ago that lived alone in an unfiltered, heavily planted aquarium. Mostly planted with aponogeton. Started noticing the holes about a week after he went in and since the tank had a healthy population of pond snails, I assumed that's what he was after. Later I saw him just swimming...

Re: Breeding snails in a sump
I think a better idea might be to plant your sump. I built a basket out of plastic construction cloth, filled it with clay pebbles made for hydroponics, and planted it with peace lilies. A small compact flourescent light over head and your all set. Black out the stand to keep light from shining out ...

Re: Hairy Puffer Fish Care
On the issue of sand I say never go cheap. use only sand made for fish tanks. I use carib sea sunset gold in two of my tanks. It looks great and most importantly, it contains NO silica. Being someone who has kept S.A. stingrays and many other burrowing species this is very important. Silica sand wil...

Re: Picky Abei puffer
He still gets live crayfish, fiddler crabs, red worms, and night crawlers. The krill, or any other frozen food I can get him on, will only be a small part of his total diet.

Re: Picky Abei puffer
Pogo finally started taking frozen krill. Went tough love on him and let him go hungry a few days longer than usual. He nibbled a little at first, but now he goes into it pretty hard.

Re: Success Keeping Abei Puffer with Others?
My abei is called Pogo, after John Wayne Gacy's clown name. It's because he looks like a clown and kills everything he sees... For what it's worth.

Re: Breeding snails in a sump
My biggest concern would be small snails getting into and potentially fouling the return pump. I've thought of doing this myself, but, we have monthly issues with it in one of our largest sumps at the lfs I work at. And that's with a much larger pump. Once they're in there and any return lines, ther...

Re: Picky Abei puffer
Read the article. Trust me, I've tried all this. I'm the guy that gets the pinnatus batfish and harlequin sweetlips to eat. I'm starting to think Pogo's going to be on live food only. I have no real problem there, it would just make life a little easier if I could get him onto frozen or even fresh f...

Picky Abei puffer
I work at a LFS. We got a large (5") abei puffer, which of course, I took home. He's plump and healthy and eats anything he's offered, as long as it's alive. He takes crayfish, fiddler crabs, snails, fish, and any worms he's offered, but I can't get him to show any interest in fresh or frozen f...
