Re: New Addition to the family
It is just a riot to watch :D I was cleaning his tank last week and accidentally knocked sand in his "house", he looked at me, I think he said a few four letter words, and there were plumes of sand coming out of there! The first night I had him in the FW tank he took refuge behind the inta...

Re: New Addition to the family
I've got one that I just converted to brackish water, got him as a baby and it is time for him to start growing up. All I can say is awesome fish! Give him some tight cover and caves and he'll be a happy fish. I put a piece of a Habital in the sand with a 45 degree bend on each end for him and he lo...

Re: Discoloration Of my Samurai
Ok, a couple of things I can see right away. Let me preface this by saying I'm relatively new here, the more experienced people can give you more info. First, the tank is too small and overstocked. The GSP, by itself, requires a 30 gallon or larger, the Samuri needs about 30 gallons alone also, the ...

Re: More questions on Marine setup
What about a pair of Raccoon Butterfly fish or Auriga Butterfly fish? Preferably the latter because it is easiest to care for and will give the "splash of color" my wife wants. Personally I'd just like the Porc in there with a Snowflake eel.....

Re: More questions on Marine setup
I may have to find Nemo? Arrrrrgggghhhhhh!!!! My kids asked me if we could get a "Nemo and Dory" fish and I told them no. I may have to eat my words. There's some Dad Karma coming around to bite me.

Re: More questions on Marine setup
On to the next part of the question, if the Emperor Angels and the Porc are too much for the tank, what would be some good fish to add a splash of color. I do know Porc's are particular about roommates and large angels are pretty safe. Is there anything smaller that would be left alone? I was thinki...

Re: More questions on Marine setup
I'd rather have the tank drilled but that's not an option, I guess. Just an FYI, ALL Aqueon/All-Glass aquariums over 55g have tempered glass bottoms. You cannot drill those, it will simply shatter the glass. Even if it wasn't tempered glass no one around here will do it. In a town of 18,848 people, ...

Re: More questions on Marine setup
I didn't catch the DSB post. The way I figure it is I'll have this up and cycling by July at the earliest. I talked with the local glass shop (we only have one) and they do not drill aquariums because of liability and the possibility of the glass being tempered. I talked with the LFS owner, who also...

Re: More questions on Marine setup
well if you have nerves of steel, you can try it yourself... But a glass shop or a LFS might be better. PP is right that the two you mentioned could work. (I forgot about the sump) My nerves are nerves of aluminum. Hopefully I can get the local glass shop to come in and drill it for me, nearly had ...

Re: More questions on Marine setup
Ok, I'm going to play totally ignorant (not a huge stretch of imagination) here. Can someone explain how a drilled tank works vs 1 or 2 large overflow boxes. What I was thinking was two overflow boxes, each about 15 inches long with 1.5 inch stand pipe to the sump. Am i on the right track to keep fr...

Re: More questions on Marine setup
If we were to go with one Porc and one Emperor, is there any other fish we could add to give a little color?

Re: More questions on Marine setup
Where would a person go about getting a tank drilled for a sump?
Also, any stocking suggestions to go with the Porc?

More questions on Marine setup
OK, I'm very excited, I got my 180gal tank this last week and I'm in the process of setting it up. The setup process is going to be very slow because of cost of equipment and I'm building my sump, overflow, and a new stand with canopy and lights. I'm also saving up to buy a Red Sea C-Skim 1200. The ...
