Re: Feeding dwarf puffer in community tank

I had a little lady DP in a community tank for 10/11 years and she recently passed. What worked for me was Target Feeding! I have a similar composition of fish - what I'd do is feed all the other fish way on one end of the tank (flakes and pellets). Then while they were distracted, I took a pipette/...

Cute Pufferfish Dryer Balls!!

I just found these online and fell in love with them! I thought I'd share these with other puffer lovers! I usually use wool or alpaca dryer balls but I am making an exception for these! Just adorable! And a good cause! (not sure if this is the right spot in the forum for the post). https://theanima...

Re: Dwarf female swollen vent

Shelled peas work too! I take frozen peas and warm them up in water. Then pull the shells off and feed them to my DPs. The trick is getting them to eat it! It's worked for me! Good luck!

Yup! Try nightcrawlers! As for the shrimp, I do raw peeled shrimp in the VitaChem and my dude chomps it right down. Can't wait to see pics!!

Re: Please Help- In Search of Congo Puffer

We have a REALLY picky Congo! He had never eaten deD food before we adopted him and turned his nose up at everything except the minnows the previous owner fed him. I've had great luck with thawed frozen shrimp soaked in VitaChem - he will pig out on it! It took him a while to readily accept it, and ...

Re: Juvenile fahaka illness

I usually do water testing when I get a new fish, before a water change, or when anything seems even remotely off - my first go-to is water testing! The majority of the time there is an issue in one of my tanks, it's a water issue. Also we have ammonia in our tap water that I didn't know was there u...

Re: Juvenile fahaka illness

Welcome to the forum! Could you post some info on your water parameters? Such as ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, ph, water hardness, salinity etc. That will help us get a better idea of your tank! One thing I always do when getting a new puff is treat them for internal parasites, even if the FS says th...

Re: How much is too much? Feeding Q

OMG WHAT A CUTIE!! He looks healthy! Puffers will always act like they're starving even when they just ate. I have a DP who eats every day with 1 or 2 fasting days a week - she looks worringly thin on those fast days but she definitely gets plenty to eat. And boy, does she let me know how hungry she...

Re: Baby Fangs puff (likely) ate gravel

So glad he's ok!! That's the problem with puffers! They're so curious and goofy that it gets them into trouble! Whenever mine eats, he gasps like he's dying! Gave me a heart attack until I realized he's just a pig and gasps while he's digesting! I panicked and went through the routine every time: ch...

Re: Discussion: What's a weird thing your Puffer has done/does?

1.) DP spits water at feeding time, like an uncoordinated archer fish. NO LIE. She gets so flustered at the surface waiting for the food, she starts spitting little bits of water up in the air, and looks like she's sucking water in and out angrily when she goes back under water. 2.) Baby Cochinchin...

Discussion: What's a weird thing your Puffer has done/does?

The title says it all! Last night my hubs and I sat down to watch a movie and we noticed our Congo intently swimming up and down on that side of his tank. It wasn't a panicked swim, or "HEY FEED ME NOW" swim: it was a relaxed swim as if he was trying to keep both eyes on the TV and kept ge...

Re: Dragon Puffer (Tetraodeon Palembangensis): Feeding

I'm sorry - I don't have a Dragon; I have a Congo, which is related :) but mine does occasionally does suck snails off the glass. My Congo would only eat minnows - I tried earthworms and he was terrified of them! He refused anything soaked in garlic, shelled mussels, two types of raw shrimp, and she...
