Re: Large White Areas on Puffers' Skin
We both apologize if some of you felt our first post ignored or glossed over some of the points raised. There was a lot of data provided in reply to our questions and it took a while to process it all. :D Those are sometimes what happens after a very severe puffer bite, that exact whiteness. We thin...

Keep him in FW untill he has a 30 gallon to himself We couldn't agree more! We found out the hard way that the oft-recommended .002 sg salt changes wreak havoc on filtration unless done in small steps. yup Ammonia and nitrite can be far more harmful to the fish than the problem the adding salt is i...

Re: March POTM Accepting Entries!
I apologize if this is already covered somewhere, but I couldn't find an answer to my question. Are close relatives like burrfish, cowfish, and/ or boxfish allowed to enter?

we decided not to return the poor guy to wal-mart. Yay! At least 2 of our local wal-marts flush live returned fish, and refuse to alter this policy despite our talking to store management. We were led to believe that this is a company-wide policy, but I really hope not. I'm no expert, and what you'...

Re: Large White Areas on Puffers' Skin
Thanks! :) As far as biting goes, these 2 puffers are not at all aggressive towards any fish, let alone each other. Despite being offered food items at opposite ends of the tank, they sometimes insist on going after the same piece of food. Tator (aka Dictator) is the dominant one of the 2, and when ...

Re: New Fahaka Owner
That is so irresponsible of the LFS to put a plec in ther and thinking that their "armour" is good protection. These puffers crush through shells with very little effort, I hope you pointed this out the the staff there, ask them if they would like to have a housemate that stabbed them eve...

Re: GSP With Irregular Spots?
Sabahensis, what you currently got him in fresh or brackish. Sorry for the delay; just got back from Christmas holiday. He's currently in brackish (.25%, about 2.5 tsp/ gallon). His tank water from the lfs was .24% when I tested the water in his bag. I need to learn how to use sg rather than %, as ...

Re: GSP With Irregular Spots?
If you have the aqualog pufer book have a look at page 61, there's a larger gsp with perfectly round spots, I've seen large ones with round spots, too. In contrast, on page 64 are juveniles with irregular spots similar to your puffer. They have been named "T. cf. sabahensis". The "cf...

Re: GSP With Irregular Spots?
Looks like a Sabahensis to me: http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Brackish/T_Sabahensis/ Yay! I'm not crazy! I knew something about his spots was nqr. Everyone kept telling me that it was just a different pattern or that that's just what mature GSP's look like. His pattern loo...

Re: New Fahaka Owner
Thanks! :D Lots of new good stuff to take in. We had to go to the LFS today for filterfloss (oh darn :P) and he was by himself. He was spunkier and followed us around, and we think he'd like to be an only fish (in his tank, anyway ;)). We realized we forgot a test kit and had to go back, and they'd ...

GSP With Irregular Spots?
Until I found my guy, I'd only seen very small GSP's around 1-1.5", and they and all have perfectly round spots. My guy is about 5" long and does not have round spots. Is this a typical spot pattern for a larger GSP? These are the best photos I could get from the top, where the pattern is ...

New Fahaka Owner
Hi y'all! I'm new, so quick intro. I'm a cold-water enthusiast, and have kept goldfish for nearly 25 years and currently have 2 goldfish tanks (1 of Ryukins that hopefully a couple will grow to be show-quality and 1 of cute Pearlscales). My dh has many years of experience with breeding angels and di...
