Re: Figure 8 setup
Mussels are said to contain thiaminase which can cause a vitamin b1 defficiency but other foods like snails and cockles don't appear to. It's not bad to feed mussels, they are a good food, i just wouldn't recommend them as a staple.

Re: Thinking about a F8

Crushed coral and aragonite sand are both forms of calcium carbonate so both will do the same job it's just that you might have to work a bit harder on tank maintenance if you use the larger grained crushed coral. Unfortunately i don't know how much is needed to cover your base but the packaging ...

Re: Tetraodon biocellatus.
Your tank would also be a good size for a T Fluviatilis especially if you are talking imperial gallons. The difference between the 2 species though is the salinity requirements, you will probably end up running in full marine with a T Fluviatilis rather than low brackish with a T Biocellatus. Let us...

It's great to see posts from new members, and obviously the more, the merrier but I can't get my head around why someone would go to the trouble of registering and then slag everyone off within the first couple of posts. I'm not suprised that offence was taken because name-calling doesn't tend to wa...

Re: Anyone have a tank of beggers??
My Fig 8 has always swam to the front when i come into the room. I recently added some Mollies and they just went about their own business until the food landed in the tank. Now when i walk into the room all of the fish swim to the top right corner of the tank waiting to be fed, it took about a mont...

You appear to have a bee in your bonnet Puffthemagicdragon? I offered the only info. I just buy the only one that my LFS sells and squeeze enough out to coat the food, then leave it to marinate for a bit.

Re: plzzzz help sick f8
Unfortunately water changes don't cycle a tank, you need an ammonia source to cycle and it usually takes about a month to build up the necessary bacteria in your filter to convert ammonia to nitrite and then nitrite to nitrate. You will need to change water daily at the moment until you can either r...
