Re: HOB refugium snail breeder?
i buy large snails from the asian food market and smash them for my fahaka and you can hear the teeth on the shells so smashing mts should be fine. lord knows they will breed well enough.

Re: Just a quick Carinotetraodon travancoricus (DP) question
I think a heavily planted 20l would be a nice home for a trio of DPs.
RTR I am fascinated by your response what are the outside too tanks for? Are they all plumbed together? Why is that better than say a bigger tank like a 40g breeder?

Re: Fahaka questions
One year ago I put my 1" Fahaka in a 180g tank by herself. I fully planted it a few months earlier so it was a little hard to find her sometimes but it was so awesome to watch her swimming around in all that space. My only regret is as she gets bigger (7" now) the tank is starting to look ...

Re: One of my silly turgidus parents puffed XD
I had a turgidus who would float around near the filter intake. He would wait until it had almost sucked him up against it, then he would puff swim around in circles, deflate and repeat a few times, then just swim away, same time every morning.

Re: Fahaka tank diary
The tank is 180g 6'x2'x2'. I don't think it was right after she is usually slimmer before feeding though. I may be over feeding, I usually give 3 snails shells cracked. The snails range in size and I usually just grab any three so some days she gets more than others depending on the size of snails. ...

Re: Fahaka tank diary
Well I have given up on breeding snails and cherry shrimp for bella. Too small, takes too many. I have added clams to the snails from the Chinese grocery. Now I am going to try breeding marble crays to use as a treat and something live to chase. I have 2 20g long tanks one for adults and one for bab...

Re: Mbu tail injury, surgery fix?
When it comes to my own health and the health of my family and pets, I usually have a policy of not risking surgery or treatments unless absolutely necessary. If you have ever sedated a puffer for dentistry you know that putting them to sleep is not an exact science and it is hard on the health of t...

Re: Congo Puffers and CO2 Injected Planted Tank
As PP says adequate burial sites will be a concern. You can leave some space but you may need to adapt your aquascaping after the puffer decides where it wants to bury itself as knowing puffs they will probably not like the spot you choose. I think the fluctuating Ph will be a problem, I believe tha...

Re: Water Change Questions
So ya know the plastic fitting on the python that attaches to the faucet and allows you to choose siphon or refill. Has anyone ever come across a brass or metal one of those. I have spent quite a bit of time in the plumbing section trying to put one together with no luck. Absolutely the only weal sp...

Re: Fahaka tank diary
I feed snails mostly, often but not always soaked in vitamins. Everyday except occasionally I miss a day if I'm out alot. Water changes about 40% once a week, occasionally it goes to 2 weeks if I'm out of town. I don't test alot but after not changing the water for 2 weeks I test the nitrate and it ...

Re: Fahaka tank diary
At almost 10 months. Here's the tank. Crypts have grown in well, they are getting a little ropey as they reach for the light. I reduced the wattage going to all LEDS. The Vals have really taken off and are now more than 6 feet long. http://i540.photobucket.com/albums/gg323/BiffMalawi/DSC_0064.jpg He...

Re: tank footprint question
I vote for the 24x24 and 3 dwarfs. Put in some sunset hygrophilia with fairly bright lights and it will stay low and very pretty. F8s are awesome but the brackish water is more work and limits the plant choices severly. Although plastic ones can be nice. Sorry Stratters the 24c x24 is the larger foo...

Re: Water Change Questions
For your water volumes that pump seems like overkill. I had a client who would not let me use a python and whose tank set up made pouring water in from a 5 gallon bucket impossible. I attached a normal powerhead to a hose and dropped it in a bucket. Worked great and the flow was not too much for the...

Re: woodlouse/rollpolly
i put a piece of coral that had been sitting on the basement floor for awhile in my Jack Dempsey Tank and 20 of them came pouring out of the rock. My JD had a field day. They did very well underwater. Don't know anything about breeding them though.
