Yes, but only when Handling to trim their teeth.

Re: Long-term stability of safestart bacterial colonies
If you don't plan on getting the fish until you get to college then I wouldn't bother complicating the journey and just set up when you get there. Safestart should instantly cycle the tank so you could add fish straight away. The pH crash i was talking about is due to a lack of maintenance, keep up ...

Re: Long-term stability of safestart bacterial colonies
The crash may be due to a lack of tank maintenance. When waste is produced and converted to nitrate the tank water is turned more acidic. Eventually the water will become so acidic that the filter bacteria can no longer function properly and the ammonia level will skyrocket. When moving your tank yo...

Re: Please help! Is this a nematode on my F8?
Their bellies are just big sacks and the lumps will change position due to the way that the food lies in it.
I think that your puffer is a bit too well fed by the way.

Re: F8 in trouble
Unfortunately puffers aren't as hardy as other fish and your gobies would withstand an uncycled tank much better than your F8. You could try daily partial water changes and hope he gets better but i fear it may be too late. That said hard breathing could be a sign of over eating so if he has a massi...

Re: Help, possible Ammonia spike
Does he look fat or skinny? If fat then he could be constipated. If skinny then maybe the wormer didn't work or it's something else that's causing it. I would probably do another 50% water change but add marine salt this time to get the tank to SG1.002@25DegC which will probably work out to be about...

Re: Help, possible Ammonia spike
If he's not being pushed around in the current then he's still got a chance - fingers crossed. It's curious that the ammonia rose so sharply after only 5 days - did you drastically change the salinity of your tank at a water change?

Re: Lighting for SAP
I haven't got SAP's but I suspect that like most fish that size they will shy away from bright lighting. You could add a floating plant to make them feel more secure and tempt them out a bit.

Re: I think bagira is sick
How did you cycle the tank - it doesn't usually happen in 3 days unless you have used an instant start product and were maintaining the bacterial colony with an ammonia source in the period between setting up, adding the instant start and introducing your fish?

Re: F8 and Water Flow
My figure 8 has never swam into the current of a filter outflow like other fish seem to do for exercise and in my smaller tank he/she would look for shelter from the strong flow from my canister filter so I'm led to believe that they do not like a strong current. My larger tank uses the same externa...

Re: F8 tank: Eheim filter dimensions, and 1 or 2 filters?
Personally if I had the space and a sufficient number of power outlets then I'd go for 2 filters with a combined turnover rate of 10x the tank volume per hour.

Re: Mixing Salt/Tank Maintenance
You can get slim-line water butts in any DIY centre. That 1400lph pump will pump to 1.8m high if I have found the correct pump. Hopefully it will be 'man enough' for the task but I think that it might struggle once it has aged a bit.
