Re: New Humpback Puffer

Might be parasites. Even if you aren't sure, you should still treat it, just to be on the safe side!

Re: Does my Amazon puffer look sick?

I completely agree! I would have gotten more, but these guys were on the expensive side. They all looked healthy and active in the store, so I think she's stressed from the lack of other puffers. I am going to use Melafix, but in her own enclosure, as the medicine often kills gouramis and other laby...

Re: what type of puffers are these, please help

That's a huge difference there! When it comes to rare fish like these, the local fish stores often don't know what they get in, so label them based on what they think. That's why you might see a pacu sold as a silver dollar, or a juvenile Texas cichlid sold as a Jack Dempsey. These things happ...

Re: List of freshwater fishes to avoid for beginners

I completely agree with listing the bala shark, pacu, and leporinus. Petsmart markets the balas as beginner fish, when from much experience and loss of these fish, I know that they are neurotic messes! As for leporinus, I haven’t seen them at petsmart in a while, but when they were sold there, I got...

Re: Tetraodon schoutedeni (Spotted Congo Puffer) tried to bite Hara jerdoni (Stone Catfish)

Not sure if I could consider the Congo puffers as suitable tankmates. Sure, they’re more mellow than other species, but mellow for puffer fish still doesn’t make them great with certain fish. Remember, puffers are curious, territorial fish, and will try to chase their tankmates, and can succeed. Als...

Re: what type of puffers are these, please help

Do you know what these fish were marketed as? If they were wild caught, they could have been mistaken for something they’re not. I’ve seen baby GSPs marketed as dwarves!
Try looking up marilyna pleurostica. They’re a saltwater species from Australia, and look pretty much like those pics.

Yeah, I can’t think of a different puffer with that particular structure except the columnasis species.

Re: what type of puffers are these, please help

That does not look like an amazon, with the its three stripes and lack of spots on the sides. I’m thinking either a banded puffer (Columnasis psicattus) or a color form of a golden puffer?

Re: Does my Amazon puffer look sick?

I do agree with that. She seems more active when the other fish are asleep. I will try to get her into her own tank soon. However, as far as her seeming sick goes, I have no clue. She doesn’t look like she has IPs, but certainly acts like it. I’ll try to post a picture soon. I have been worried abou...

Does my Amazon puffer look sick?

Hi, puffer people! I’m new to the forum, and have an urgent question about an Amazon puffer (South American, Bumblebee, etc.). I’ve owned many dwarf puffers in the past and once got two amazons, but have lost them to internal parasites (one DOA, the other in a week). I cannot seem to battle the inev...
