There is a bit on a spectrum on direct veggie intake by puffers, roughly highest in SW, lower in BW, rare in FW. None of them are predominatly herbivores though - they are built as primarily predators of shelled creatures who may be largely filter feeders or scavengers/herbivores. The teeth and gut ...

See? We all have our "magic" buttons. Even SG. I just have a few more than most folks - or maybe I just don't bother to hide mine. I do try not to have any metals in the tanks, regardless of water parameters. It is too much effort for me to remember that I can this item in FW only, that on...

I'm big on regular (as in timed, not in matching my local daylight) light cycles. For night viewing, or maybe better said as "dark cycle viewing", red light is far better than "moonlight" which is locally either white or blue LED. My vampire shrimp will not come out with either o...

Correction: Diatoms do contain chlorophyll and are very definitely photosynthetic. They do not contribute as much O2 to the atmosphere as do the BGA, but they are guesstimated to account for up to 25% of the planet's carbon fixation. As they are easily silicate-limited, they rarely out-compete green...

In FW, the worst that can be expected with BioSpira is a low but positive nitrite reading for a few days, normally no ammonia at all and often no nitrite either. If the product got warm for a variable length of time it can easily be damaged.

I don't have enough BW or SW experience to call that.

Changes can be intimidating for a fairly short period. But the increase in visual complexity is well worth it, and I'm glad that the fish now "approves".

I use the whole Seachem line , well, I exaggerate a bit. I use Flourish, Fl.Nitrogen, Fl. Phosphate, Fl. Potassium, Fl. Iron, and Fl. Excel - regularly and routinely. Plus Seachem's Reef Iodide. No issue to date. Puffers are not very pH sensitive, TDS and the mineral profile counts much more than th...

Myaj - Tahitian Moon sand is not fine. It is near-ideal planted-tank substrate size and lots of planted folks use it without issues. One of the best Crypts growers we have in this area swears by it, and I really like the looks of his tanks with the stuff. They are enriched and are very heavily plant...

I'm with PP & bred on the communal tank sizing, but my use of at least 120 for one is due to tank dimensions being minimal for turning and swimming. I had two in a diagonally divided 180 with no issues on upkeep, and certainly they were nothing like the maintenance issues with the mbu. I'm afrai...

No pairing of unprotected bacteria will fully survive any sudden change in water parameters of that magnitude. But the appropriate bacteria for light BW are still the FW bacteria. I'll go with Tim Hovanec's suggestions. Besides which, I have no data on the storage solution used for BioSpira, but I'd...

Re: Breedin Fahakas

To counteract my own experience with these fish, they have been reported captive bred. I once had the web site, but lost it in a crash and burn. There was not a lot of info on tank volumes used, which I would like to know. A side not discussed on my experiences, implied by the descriptions but not s...

Welcome to The Puffer Forum! I like to use aragonite or crushed coral in all BW to SW tanks, to help support the high pH and high alkalinity natural to those waters. If you existing tank is not UG filtered, depending in part on setup and handling, but the odds are good that the majority of your biof...
