Re: Dwarf/Pea Puffer tank has landed!
Once you have a jungle of plants, I'm sure a few DPs will be very happy in there. They'd probably appreciate a background, for security (feels less open).

Re: Dwarf Puffer feeding
Feed till the tummy is nicely rounded but not super bloated. Depends on the size of the snails and the size of the DP. Start with a single tiny snail, and see how it goes from there. The DP in my avatar was filled with both food AND eggs. Her size went down appreciably once she laid them. That image...

Re: pea puffs
I would probably have 4 DPs or so in a tank that size. Make sure the tank is heavily landscaped with lots of broken sightlines and plenty of places to explore. I kept 4 DPs in a 29 gallon tank happily for a few years, once I hit the right M-F ratio.

Air stones on brackish tanks make me crazy -- all that salt buildup from the bubbles! Blech.

Re: Fig8 Puffer Questions
Raw shell-on shrimp from the grocery store is fine. Mine always enjoyed it. Freeze first to kill off any possible parasites, then thaw and serve. It's normal for their tummy bulge to flatten, anywhere from a few hours to a day or so after eating, particularly if you're not overfeeding (which is a go...

Re: ideas on feeding my dwarf puffer
It can be challenging to try to breed snails in a tank with shrimp. Shrimp have been known to eat the tiny baby snails sometimes.seuadr wrote:I scored a good deal on a used biocube 8 that i am planning on turning into a planted shrimp tank, so that will give me an excellent place to house snails if need be..

Re: ideas on feeding my dwarf puffer
My DP eats mostly live blackworms, which I buy at the LFS. They can live for a couple weeks in the fridge if you're diligent about rinsing them. I've never tried to raise the worms myself. Occasionally I'll get some live brine shrimp just for fun -- he loves them. And my LFS gut-loads them with some...

Re: is my tank "busy" enough?
He'll settle in. Glass surfing isn't always from boredom -- it can be from stress too. New environment. I'd recommend not fiddling with stuff in the tank for a few days.
Congratulations on your new puffer! I love DPs.

I'm sorry he's not bouncing back the way you'd hoped, PC. Fingers crossed that he shows Improvement soon. If you can't get him over the hump, no one can.

Love it, PC! I'll have you know that I made a fool of myself peering in every dark tank corner at the LFS this afternoon. Didn't find a Fangs, but I DID get funny looks from the employees...
