Some puffers will leave other fast moving fish alone as long as they are fed well. Its not uncommon to hear of the nice gentle puffer who hasn't killed his tankmates causing a bloodbath

I think if it were IP then after 6 months it would have been picked up by now? The other things to look at are temperature and the possibility that your puffer doesn't need as much food as he used to. Yeah Nice tank too I have a Rio too and they are very comprehensive tanks. you can upgrade the filter with a larger pump if needed too
