Re: Tank Journal - puffers & tankmates

I feel very lucky but I still get nervous every morning walking down to the tank. I just keep feeding them like emperors lol. Tank measures 72x18x20, about 110 gal. Yeah I got bit hard. I also just started a little 25 gal temperate softies tank so now I’ve got multi tank syndrome as well. Hard to be...

Re: Tank Journal - puffers & tankmates

Annual Update  Well, January is here again and it marks the 2nd anniversary of the "new" tank as well as the 4th anniversary of my GSPs' jump into saltwater. Everyone is doing well, and I'm fully into coral addiction. I'm doing what I said I never would do, which is spending silly ...

Yeah the red spot blenny is a hoot. He’s like the cranky old guy yelling at the kids. Stay off my lawn!

Re: Tank Journal - puffers & tankmates

January marked the 1st anniversary since upgrading to the larger tank. It has been a fun year and I've been lucky in that setbacks have been few and minor. I learned a lot and look forward to more lessons down the road. 1st anniversary photo: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/46746609035_a0e3086d9...

Re: Tank Journal - puffers & tankmates

Well, there has been one casualty. The acro crab decided to leave the safety of the birdsnest & Diddy swam around with an incredibly round belly. Poor Spot. So definitely nothing without a big shell. I see zero aggression towards other fish - they are only interested in crustaceans. No interest ...

Re: Tank Journal - puffers & tankmates

So I have access to a better camera, a Canon EOS M3. Haven't learned to use it yet, but still getting better pics than from my iphone. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4668/40286531921_36e9ae942b.jpg Diddy: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4719/38690591660_3a61b8193a.jpg Nan: (she's almost the sa...

Re: Tank Journal - puffers & tankmates

They have zero interest in any corals. The things they are curious about are hermits and the conch, which they follow around sometimes but don’t even nip. I was playing with the idea of a valentini. What do you think? They sound more nippy than GSPs. I wonder if I would really be pushing my luck :? ...

Re: Tank Journal - puffers & tankmates

Yes, I count myself lucky that my puffers are model citizens. I read about tang behavior and it sounds way worse! My theory for their mild manner: - never been fed live food so hunting instincts are not as strong (although anything I drop in they think it's food, so I introduce new livestock away fr...

A new home to start off the new year!

Very exciting! The new year seemed like a great time to move everyone into their new home :-D I've been working on the plumbing, sump, acquiring equipment (got an awesome deal on a Vertex 180 skimmer on Black Friday) and was able to get saltwater into the new tank on Jan 2. I then moved a couple of ...

Dwarf puffers

So...I had this 10 gal tank to house some of my daughter's baby guppies that had since emptied out. And I saw some dwarf puffers and thought, why not back to freshwater? Anyway, they are so cute. They were a bit shy for a week or so, darting away when I approached the tank. I couldn't tell if they w...

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates

Aw man that's terrible, sorry to hear that. My 2 ocellaris are now the meanest in the tank. Although it's just occasional chasing away from a spot they like (which changes all the time and is never an anemone, stupid clowns). No biting in the tank, knock on wood. They are all focused on feeding time...

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates

Well, it's been a little while since my last update... I was perusing the local forums as usual and saw an ad offering up a GSP for adoption (owner just got a dog). He had it in a nice setup but didn't think he had time to care for it as much anymore. I thought it must be fate, so 2 weeks after losi...

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates

Sad news... I am just gutted. Despite my vigilance, Julia managed to jump out of the tank. She often goes off to her cave after feeding, so when I missed her at the usual head count (I had taken the lid off a few times doing maintenance) I told myself I was just being paranoid. When she didn't show ...

Re: Tank updates - puffers & tankmates

Yes it's drilled. I saw it running when I bought it. The previous owner upgraded to a 200+ tank. He was selling for CA$700 last fall but with the new tank coming, he offered it up for $400. Includes stand, sump and return pump. This was the tank when he ran it: IMG_9313.JPG Hope mine will look like ...
