I would get a stonefish, but... the effects of verrucotoxin are rather terrifying if you research it.
If I did, though, I would name him "Kill You." Mr. Timn would be proud.

Re: Stocking ideas for my 40 gallon breeder
My LFS has a stonefish for sale. They have a big skull and crossbones drawn next to his name, too.

Stocking ideas for my 40 gallon breeder
Well guys, it happened again - I lost my little GSP back in January, and today my bullet goby kicked the bucket, so my tank has zero fish in it. I'm gonna do some work in it (and smash some bristle worms while I'm at it) and then restock it, but wanted some ideas as to what would be good fish for th...

Re: Mixing species?
About ten years ago I had an ultra-heavily planted 20 gallon female betta sorority tank. Sadly, I saw more homicides in that tank than in my 17 years growing up in Chicago. The tank was a failure. Everyone here is correct in predicting that the DP's will nom the bettas fins. Best to keep them separa...

Re: Blue Green Algae?
blue-green algae is the reason why the sky is blue. It's a wonderful thing in the oceans. In aquariums... not so much.

Cyanobacteria! Kill it! Kill it with fire!! This stuff can spiral out of control fast and become a real problem. I recommend manual removal of the crap growing on the glass. Also, the stuff hates water movement, so use a powerhead and increase aereation. Don't forget surface agitation - very importa...

I doubt it was the tanks.
For a high fever to come and go like that sounds like a virus to me.

Re: need help diagnosing gsp sickness
I'll be honest with ya - going by the description and water temp I suspected this was a disease called columnaris, and now judging by the pics I honestly believe that it is. A telltale sign of it is cotton/fuzz on skin, which may be flesh or black in color. It's caused by a bacterial infection. Mela...

Pufferpunk scores an extra 10 points for using the word 'egg-puffs' :giggle: Very cool and educational. Thanks for posting pics - I'm sure many of us have never seen puffer eggs before, myself included. As far as what do do with the kids, I'd reach out to LFS' first. Abei's aren't the most common pu...

Re: need help diagnosing gsp sickness
Does the spot look like an ulcer? And does this 'fuzz' look like cotton? If so, then it could be a bacterial skin infection. No way to know for sure until we see it - post those pics!

Re: New to puffer fish, have a question.
If you're asking if the fish will poison you if you touch them then the answer is no. You should never touch any fish, however, as you will disturb their protective slime coat which may make them vulnerable to infections. Never take a puffer out of the water - if they inhale air, it is likely to get...
