I am sorry to hear that. 10 years is a good run, though! You took excellent care of him.

Re: Canthigaster Jactator
I've kept various tobies in a 40 gallon for years; it's plenty of room for one. They're territorial, though, and will most likely attack each other. One toby per tank.
A toby might try to eat your shrimp and snails, though. All of mine loved live shrimp.

Re: Aiptasia are taking over my tank!!!
Peppermint shrimp are kind of hit and miss from what I hear... and some of these aiptasia are so big I think they would eat a peppermint shrimp!! Peppermint shrimp? Ive heard that a lot of people have had luck with peppermint shrimp, although ive heard if you want to go that route you need to get a ...

Aiptasia are taking over my tank!!!
Hey guys. Got a little Aiptasia problem here, okay a big one. They're taking over! I've been using Zaptasia, which does seem to work, but it seems like for every one I kill with the stuff three more pop up for the funeral. They're really getting out of hand now, and some of them are quite big. There...

Re: Sexing my toby
Looks like a little girl to me. Male tobies have iridescent lines around their eyes and a dark patch on their undersides near their rear ends. I don't see the lines around the eyes in this pic.

Re: Piggy bit my fingertip off
Wait, you can catch diseases from tanks? I don't really think 'disease' is the right word. Your aquarium water has bacteria in it, naturally, and if you were to stick your hand in the tank with an open wound, it could end up infected. This is why we say keeps your hands out of your tank wat...

Re: Piggy bit my fingertip off
A couple of years ago Camille ripped a nice chunk of skin out of my finger near the cuticle which I went to the doc for. Just for fun, I asked him for a copy of the paperwork and had him change the diagnosis to "Nommed by Pufferfish." I still have it around here somewhere... But yeah - don...

Re: What is this thing on my live rock???
It is the only tank I have, yes. In a couple years I'll be looking to buy my own house; if that happens I'll be looking at a big tank so I can have the porcupine puffer I always wanted.

Re: What is this thing on my live rock???
Cyanobacteria is ugly, nasty, invasive as all get out, sucks oxygen out of the water, and is a huge pain in the moneymaker. They're also the reason that the sky is blue. In the ocean, they're a good thing. In our aquariums, not so much. Hadla - I do miss Camille... probably why I never took her pict...

Re: What is this thing on my live rock???
Apparently so! This explains where all of these smaller aiptasia's are coming from, though. I will murder him. Also, the purple stuff blew right off the rocks when I shot it with my turkey baster, so, yep - cyano. It had me fooled - there is coralline under the red slime that is the same color. Ther...

Re: What is this thing on my live rock???
That thing is an aiptasia??? It looks so much different from the other ones. The other ones I had had long, sweeping tentacles. This thing is disc shaped with short tentacles.

What is this thing on my live rock???
One of the best things about having a marine aquarium is playing "WTF is growing in my tank," well, we get to do that again. I've seen this thing on my rock before near my mushroom but never really knew what it was. Couldn't get a good picture of it but now that the rock is covered in cora...
