Re: POTM April 2012 - send in your entries!
I'd love to enter but I'm not very tech savvy :( how do I know if it's a jpeg file? I'd be taking the pic with an iPhone. Physical size 800 pixels or less in any direction, I know what it means(kind of) but how do I check? If I sent a pic now I'm certain I'd be disqualified :D Can I mail one for ent...

Re: Fresh Scottish langoustines for Congo puffer
The congo is built like my arrowhead so it should be able to crunch most of the langoustine up. Mine likes to eat full crabs, There not massive crabs about 3 inches but the shells are harder then that langoustine by the looks of it. Thought I'd have a search on YouTube to see and found this Hi6SM5E...

Re: Fresh Scottish langoustines for Congo puffer
I went to the market in Swansea this morning and came back with a whole squid lol, luckily they did cut it up for me. I don't really eat seafood and was taken back by all the stuff they had, like king tiger prawns(they were huge) and one stall had live crabs, which I wanted to buy so I could release...

Re: Fresh Scottish langoustines for Congo puffer
Well the claw arm is 4 1/2 inches and the pincers are 1 inch. Wasn't sure about it still having its shell, I know most use earthworms as the main food cos there's not so many issues with teeth over growing. He's been having raw king prawns(no shell) and just started giving scallops too. Most other t...

Fresh Scottish langoustines for Congo puffer
Can I feed this to my Congo and if so are there any bits I can't? He's in the freezer at the moment  http://i1069.photobucket.com/albums/u478/Donna_Griffiths/photo-21.jpg Is there anything I should avoid for him as I'm going to a big indoor market tomorrow and there's loads of fish stalls, do...

Re: What size tank do YOU think an MBU should be in?
From what they were saying in that discussion, I could put an arowana in a 29g and say he was happy cos I fed him well
With people like that you could do all the studies, give them the info and they'd probably still say their puffer was happy in his little box

Re: What size tank do YOU think an MBU should be in?
Wow, that's funny. I spent ages last night reading "The hypocrite thread mbu". It made for very sad reading :( that they think such a huge fish can be kept in a 180 to 400 gallon tank quite happily. I definitely think this is one of those fish that shouldn't be for aquariums, realistically...

Re: Hair Algae
Your nitrate is insufficient, your plants are nitrogen-starved. Unplanted tanks can have very low nitrate with no ill effects, and it is the best water conditions for the fish. Plant tank need to never go nitrate-free (really undetectable). Are you supplementing any other nutrients? Under strong li...

Re: Hair Algae
Sechem's Excel worked wonders for me. Didn't bother my snails. Not sure why you'd think a fertilizer would hurt your inverts? Because I googled excel and it bought up about Microsoft, so I didn't know what you were all talking about. Now I've googled seachem's excel, it bought it up straight away. ...

Re: Hair Algae
Yes I did, which is why I posted. My tank isn't a new set up, my oldest puffers have been in there for over 18 mths. The filter has been running in there for over 2 yrs. I have tried to remove some by hand but the water wisteria is getting damaged. I can't really take the plants out for treatment, a...

Re: Hair Algae
Arrrrgh!!!! My dp tank has got hair algae, and it's spread really quick( been away since Tuesday). How do I get rid of it? Why did my tank get it? :( its a heavily planted tank so don't really want to remove the plants, plus I don't think my puffers would be happy without them lol. Are any treatment...

Re: April Fools!!! Congo tank with babies
Just an update on the fish fry, it seems none of them have survived I had 2 still going on Tuesday, but I was away till yesterday and now can't see any.
So it seems I'll never know what fish shared a tank with my Congo
