Re: Overfeeding Puffers

What is recommended feeding? I gave my two new little GSP's that came home today a small snail and a couple of small shrimp shavings each. The well fed, sleek one re-homed with me did lose interest after the snail and a bit of shrimp (I'm told he prefers snails to all other food) but I think the ski...

Thanks for all the advice, puffers came home today!

I really appreciate all the help and advice. Our two little GSP's came home today. One re-homed and the other from the same batch as him at the LFS. Tricky operation as had to drip acclimate one for an hour as coming from lower salinity then float him in a box while getting the other so they could g...

Re: Advice on ideal number of GSP's in tank please

Hahahahaha ours do like watching the fish but the fish like watching back. I'm looking forward to seeing what the cats and the puffers make of each other :)

Re: Advice on ideal number of GSP's in tank please

Lol I wish I could fit in a tank that large, 60 or 70 g for a pair of puffers along with the 50 g freshwater community is the limit here. My tanks have to have to be covered, as well as having fish known to jump I have 6 cats ;)

Re: Advice on ideal number of GSP's in tank please

Ah cool, is that 225 litres? I like the idea of an awkward little hanger-on lol. Also I've a real soft spot for morays, didn't really think of them for an aquarium due to their size. Just looked them up and the recommended tank size is really small in relation to their size - I suppose as they are a...

Re: Advice on ideal number of GSP's in tank please

Thank you, I'll get him from the LFS early enough to complete that process before getting the re-homed one, I'd imagine it take a while.

Re: Advice on ideal number of GSP's in tank please

That's more for a singleton, like a 55g for 1. Where the issues come in is that if you want to go SW (highly suggested), then you'll need 1 1/2-2lbs live rock per gallon, which can take up a lot of swimming room but works GREAT for filtration. Once again, thank you! Yes, I've already arrived at 70 ...

Re: Advice on ideal number of GSP's in tank please

A good rule of thumb is 10g/1" of fish. Thank you! So 60 gallons for each GSP when they reach their full size of 6" i.e. 180 g for 2 and 240 g for 3? I've heard 30 g for a GSP then an additional 15 g for each additional one meaning 70 g for 2 is very generous and still over minimum for 3....

Advice on ideal number of GSP's in tank please

Hi, I hope the experienced puffer people on here can help. A juvenile GSP of about 1" is being re-homed with me when the tank I've set up for him has cycled and been stable for awhile. The current owner is giving him up as while his larger tank mates (a few 4"+ GSP's) are not attacking him...

Re: Young GSP's in full marine?

Hi, has any consensus been reached via this thread on young GSP's in full marine? The little guy being re-homed with me when the tank has completed cycling is 1" and said to be doing well in 1.026 - I plan to introduce another from the same batch simultaneously. I have clearly experienced peopl...

Re: Young GSP's in full marine?

Looks like I'll be doing this, taking on a re-homed 1" juvenile GSP who's in full marine now and sourcing another of the same size. Lol straight in the deep end so to speak, picking up a 250 litre tank tomorrow and trying to get live rock, canister, etc asap. Any advice?

Advice please, setting up for GSP sooner than planned and need to get it right!

Hi, I posted upon joining as I was planning to set up for GSP's later in the year and have found it very useful perusing this forum in preparation. Last night I spoke to someone in a group who lives nearby and needs to re-home a 1" juvenile GSP as the others he has are much larger and while not...

Re: Young GSP's in full marine?

This is interesting to bear in mind for when I set up for GSP's - any recommendations on starting salinity and schedule of increase?

Re: Initial advice please, planning a brackish tank with mangrove for gsp or figure 8

Hey, thanks for the welcome and the advice. I've been given loads of different info an tank size and wanted to check with people who know puffers well as to if the space I can give them is ideal rather than just the minimum requirement. Everything I've read (from reputable sources) seems to suggest ...

Initial advice please, planning a brackish tank with mangrove for gsp or figure 8

Hi, thank you for allowing me to join. I've recently had a freshwater community tank re-homed with me and would really like to try a brackish one as well. It's early days for the freshwater tank so I won't be doing this until that has been stable for some time of course but just wanted to run the id...
