Re: Poll / Best personality - Puffer vs. Cichlid
Adult Fahakas could remove a finger....snip... Never trust big puffers. The fingers you save may be your own. When we first got the mbu I showed the children what sort of damage it's teeth could do to a whole mussel. That was enought to persuade them not to put thier hands into a tank or to allow a...

Re: Poll / Best personality - Puffer vs. Cichlid
Lol I'd love a huge tank just for a school of fish, but I couldn't stick with one species and I'd rather have a puff in it lol We used to have a1000l tank, heavily planted, soft water with over 200 neon tetras and a few small cat fish until some-one suggested adding a few SAPs to it. It's surprisin...

Re: Poll / Best personality - Puffer vs. Cichlid
When we first started fish-keeping, we had a tank of cichilds. I wasn`t keen on them, though pufferghoti was. I found them to be highly terrortorial and aggressive. Though that may have been because we made a rookie mistake of keeping several species in too small a tank.

If you are in or near a large town, look for restaurant suppliers. I get most of my sea-food for both puffer and human from one.
THey have a wider range than most supermarkets and are frequently cheaper as well.

I completely understand the whole concept of carbon filters and the like being nitrate factories because they collect detritus and what not, but wouldnt it be ok to just remove the carbon filters and let the "filter" run for added water circulation, and to keep the biowheel running? Thats...

You should see the eyeroll every time I explain to Hubby about how I have to move 6 tanks out of state when we move... I spent more time and energy on making sure our puffers and other fish went to good homes when we moved to Canada than I did on selling the house and getting removal people organis...

Eggcrate is the fish-keepers friend. At least this fish-keeper... I wasn't keen on egg-crate until the trigger-fish smacked me in the face by leaping out of the tank. I'm still not sure who was most surprised..me to see a fish hit me in the face and fall to the ground and the fish gasping for breat...
