Caulerpa is a major problem in the mediterranean killing the sea grass biotopes. Wouldn't put it in a highly sensitive reef tank, but i wouldn't put T. nigroviridis in a reef tank, either. Bad thing is: when they let out the spores, almost the entire plants die and leave greenish-white slimy stuff....

To my opinion nitrite is avoided best by adding old filter material (preferably from a brackish water or seawater tank) after each waterchange/salinity increase into the filter of the uncycled tank. I had no nitrite cycling any new tank that way. The fungus went away in two days just by increasing s...

Gymnothorax tile is a moray. It gets 60 cm long with a diameter of 6 cm, so a big tank is needed. They need brackish water with a specific gravity of > 1,015. It's bite is venomous. They do well in saltwater. They are peaceful to other morays and can be housed in groups. They are sold as "fres...

There are numerous different species of "hydra". Larger ones are capable of killing fish fry. My hydra were eaten by Procambarus sp., a crayfish (the parthenogenetic species banned in the USA). hydra in a friends tank died out after about three weeks without special treatment. Does your hy...

Thanks for the explanations. It's tempting. Actually I wanted to have a South America (NE region, lower Amazonas) tank with C. asellus with 160 or 240 litres, typical plants and other fish, which were reported in association with C. asellus . But a tank with two puffer species is worth a thought. An...

The article on pufferpedia T. fluviatilis states: "Care: Try to initially introduce T. fluviatilis to an aquarium with a salinity matching that of the store tank. Slowly raise the salinity to marine levels by a maximum of DG= 0.02 / week. These are active, larger puffers that do best in 40 gall...

1. The tank is not cycled, so there are basically no bacteria yet which could be killed by salt. Please read the whole post. Sorry, I missed that. The tank is practically cycled (old water, old filter). @boxermom: During my start with T. nigroviridis I tried to simulate salinity changes as they occ...

Its not my intention to contradict the other posters, which certainly have more years of experience with T. nigroviridis , but I would go for increasing salinity with the highest priority for the following reasons: 1. The tank is not cycled, so there are basically no bacteria yet which could be kill...

I am citing Kottelat, M., 2001 Fishes of Laos (in my opinion the most exact source): "adults with ocellus, sometimes red, but most commonly made of a large black blotch surrounded by a paler area and a series of more or less contiguous large black blotches; juveniles with a small red spot in ce...

The name is of the species is Tetraodon nigroviridis , you can look it up in the pufferpedia. It needs brackish water. Don't just throw the salt into the tank (its too aggressive while dissolving). Increase the salinity of your tank slowly to avoid an osmotic shock. Use a separate bucket for mixing ...

Well that's me during my time in Sweden/Norway with my former car (?). Since I accidentally ripped out the choke this car is basically free of all extras. Does MTV still do the ride pimping show?

I also think it is probably a Tetraodon turgidus , because the only other yet recognized species it could be is Tetraodon cochinchinensis (Fangs puffer), which "often" has a red ocellus below the dorsal fin. But that doesn't sound like a reliably diagnostic trait. An ocellus should be miss...
