Re: Is my tank nearly cycled?

Still testing the water daily. Ammonia is now showing 0, nitrite could possibly be showing on one test in tiny amounts and in my other test it's 0. Nitrates are going up very slowly. I've made a couple of water changes since he's been in just as a precaution. I do think the Puffer is well though, he...

Re: Treatments for new Puffer?

Well I've treated him by soaking blood worms in garlic and a sprinkle of the powder. He seems fine so I've probably not overdosed him but I've no idea if it did much for any worms he may have!

Re: F8 and Water Flow

Okay thanks for that. I think reading the manual this filter has a surface agitation mode but you have to lift it partially out of the water, I'll take a look at it later. If that doesn't curb the flow I'll try getting a large rock to put in front of the output.

F8 and Water Flow

How much flow is too much flow for these guys. I have a tank with an inbuilt filter which had a rather pathetic trickle flow, as fitting an external was difficult I am using a Fluval U4, however the flow on this for a 90 - 100 L (not 100% sure which) is pretty strong no matter what setting I put it ...

Re: Treatments for new Puffer?

Oh god talking of vets I asked how much it was to clip the teeth, they charge £60 just to look at the fish for half an hour (wtf) and then £45 to clip using anaesthetic but would actually try it without first. I really hate vets, why charge 60 quid consultation when they already know what needs doing!

Re: Treatments for new Puffer?

Haha OK so just sprinkle a bit on and maybe flavour with garlic. I like that better than trying to work out the dosage as per the worming article! "Fenbendazole. Fenbedazole is another medication recommended by Noga. He suggests the following dosages for aquatic aplications: Orally: 11 mg/lb of...

Re: Treatments for new Puffer?

Anyone have an idea how much of this powder wormer to use, I tried calling a specialist vet and even they weren't sure.

Re: Treatments for new Puffer?

It's a 5g sachet of powder. It says to use 0.3g per 30 UK gallons. It's made from Flubendazole, I think it's OK because one of the reviews said they used it on their puffer ok.

Anyone know how to orally dose this and what amount to use?

Re: SAP teeth in the wild?

I think it's really interesting. We should really study an animal before removing it from the wild for the pet trade surely. I've been reading everything I can on it and it does appear the algae thing may hold some weight. There are quite a few posts out there where SAP owners report that they enjoy...

Re: Is my tank nearly cycled?

Yup! I split it between the two filters. I'm still continuing to add Stability on a daily basis just in case. He's looking perky today and still has a nice white belly. I'm so paranoid he's gonna get sick from all the other posts about them getting ill I've read. He's a complete pig and eats pretty ...

Re: Is my tank nearly cycled?

Well I picked him up plus another bottle of safestart to be sure and did a water change before hand. He's bombing about the tank slaughtering the snails I left in thinking that he probably wouldn't eat for a while, it's literally like a massacre in there. Well at least I don't have be to worry about...

Re: Treatments for new Puffer?

Ok well I got the treatment it comes in a sachet and says to add to the tank. Any idea how much I use if soaking a few snails or bloodworm in it, I'm a bit wary as there's a warning saying that an overdose will kill my fish!

Re: Python Water Changer?

Cheers maybe I need to speak to a member of staff that's a bit clued up.

I was gonna do the electric gravel clean as an extra along with the regular water change each week, that's if the gravel cleaner works better than the Python at pulling up muck. I'm at a loss about how to clean it up now!
