It could take a few days before a new fish is willing to eat. It is best to remove any uneaten food. It should be noted that krill is best avoided or just fed as a rare treat as it can cause jaw lock.

I don't see an issue with it, especially after boiling it, it might take time for wood to soak up enough water to not float though .
