Re: Full grown F8???
Good! Krill can be a useful treat, but some puffer fish get addicted and refuse other foods and then develop bizarre and potentially fatal eating problems. In the past I used a good bit of krill for puffers, now I am leery of it for this family of fish. Puffers can do fine without it.

Re: Full grown F8???
It certainly sounds like full normal behavior. If you are using FD shrimp, that is fine. But if they are FD krill, they should be minimized, and either is perhaps safer/better is pre-soaked. You might test that option if they are still accepted. I asked if he was with a group as such are generally w...

Re: HELP! new F8 coming tomorrow and water is BAD
Stability will not provide the required nitrogen cycle bacteria. Do not, repeat do not attempt to kill off any worms residing in the tank! The last thing in the world you want to do is have a colony of dead worms to further pollute the tank. Keep testing at least once daily, better twice daily, and ...

Re: Full grown F8???
Fish never stop growing, but after sexual maturity growth is terribly s-l-o-w. If you are giving SL (standard length - nose to caudal peduncle), the fish is fine. If you are giving TL (total lenghth - nose to end of cudal/tail fin) the fish is a bit stunted, but not enough to be long-term harmful. W...

Re: dwarf puffer not eating, very skinny
While water column bacteria certainly are normal tank inhabitants, they contribute nothing, repeat nothing, to the tank's required nitrogen cycle. All the persistent tank bacteria for oxidizing ammonia and nitrite are obligate attached forms. Statements to the contrary are simply incorrect. They als...

Re: Questions About Red Eye Puffers and Dwarf Puffers
Many hobbyists follow the out-of-date (IMHO & IME) practice of moving fish up in tank size "as they need it". This almost always means that the fish will never equal or exceed full wild size - in other words, the captive fish will be smaller and show different configuration from their ...

Re: Does this exist?
My female Fahaka lived in a 2x2x4' tank if I remember correctly. The 2x2x6 is obviously better, but they really eat space.

Re: dwarf puffer not eating, very skinny
Sorry, but the above comments by PufferGhoti are mistaken and/or misleading to absolutely incorrect. Bacteria in tanks commonly occur as either attached or free-floating as general lifestyles. Some bacteria which are free-floating occur as single cell forms or as chains or clumps of attached cells w...

Re: Lost Puffer
Freshly caught puffers may or may not be equipped with stored toxin. The toxins are not created by the puffer, but are the products of specialized bacteria in the wild. Those wild-source toxins may be present only at some certain seasons in the wild, so that local puffers may or may not have stored ...

Re: Questions About Red Eye Puffers and Dwarf Puffers
I'll restate my usual objection to minimum tank sizes: The minimum tank size is never an optimum tank size. If the minimum tank size is selected, the fish so housed is unlikely to have full normal configuration, and is less likely to have as long and healthy a lifespan as that fish would have in a 1...

Re: Does this exist?
No, it is a 120 not a 55. The face size of the two tanks is close to the same, but the front-to-back sizes are quite different (~13 inches versus ~24 inches). The 120 is also a bit taller, but that is less noticeable. There are also 75 gallon tanks which give a larger footprint with a similar face s...
