Re: GSP Newbie - Its a long read....
I'm not convinced your blood parrot is dyed. I have about five of them in my house, and depending on their mood, they sometimes change colors. The change the color the most when they want or are preparing to mate. The females will also shove gravel around the floor when this happens. The males seem ...

Re: Puffer turned all black
Could be quite a few things. One of my GSPs periodically turns black. He does it when he's sleeping, when he has just woken up, and when he is eating. He also does it periodically when he's a little stressed. For example, if I'm doing a water change or fiddling around with the decorations inside the...

Re: I Challenge You Not To Laugh At This!
I think the person who owns this puffer indicated that it was in a 10-15 gallon in full marine conditions. Though I love the way his puffer looks, I wish he would buy it a bigger home. Some of the videos obviously portray how cramped he is.

Hahaha, yeah. The entire systems are a bit complex, but you can buy the powerhead wavemakers for pretty cheap.

Re: Keeping puffers entertained
Is there anything else besides swaping are tank decor to entertain them. Usually I have I a few floating plants I drop in a few hours to let them investigate then take it out and swap it out. Does anyone else do anything? I was also wondering if other animal toys could help keep them interested, fo...

Re: GSP seems unhappy and bored?
On that note, my GSPs like swimming against some soft water currents. It's pretty funny to watch them struggle, since they aren't exactly the fastest swimmers.LilGreenPuffer wrote:If he seems bored, try rearranging his decorations and/or adding new ones, or try to teach him a trick.

Re: GSP seems unhappy and bored?
I've heard about that stuff. It's suppose to contain the appropriate bacteria to facilitate a biological filtration system. At the least, it claims to contain nitrospira(?) in each bottle. The problem, however, is that it does not require refrigeration to preserve the bacteria within the bottle, so ...

What kind of puffer is that? I saw spikes, so I thought porcupine or box, but it has a lot of small dots all over it. Looks neat.

Re: But which one?
Yeah, I agree, without knowing what exactly is in your tank and your tanks current size, it's hard to determine whether a puffer might be appropriate for your community tank. Also, I'm not sure how many peaceful freshwater puffers there are; I don't have any myself, so I can't verify this. For the m...

Re: GSP head-standing
Hmm... Well, first off... Your tank isn't fully cycled, at least from what I've read. You probably wanna get that started. If you don't know about the cycling process, here is a simple explanation: Your fish will naturally produce ammonia while they live in your aquarium; ammonia is extremely harmfu...

Re: 10 gal...
Hmmm... I don't know then. I could possibly swing a larger thank. Tanks aren't too expensive but hoods are and that's the problem. Perhaps if I could keep a 20/30gal with no hood and I can rig up some sort of lighting system... I'll look into it. I wish Big Als had tank prices online. A guy on Ebay...

Re: 10 gal...
I did some work at an art gallery / studio complex for a portion of my life, and technically, we were not permitted to actually live there. Many people did, however. It's all a matter of how you arrange your setup. I'd go with at least a 20 gallon tall, stick in some type of dresser/cupboard that ca...

Re: New GSP Mom, ICH!!!
I'm not sure what TLC is, but I can confirm at least two products that will immediately create a biological filtration system in your aquarium: Bio-Spira and Dr. Tim's One and Only. These two products are meant for brackish to saltwater whereas SafeStart by Tetra is designated for freshwater usage. ...

Nighttime Reef Pictures
Hey guys/gals, Do any of you have any pictures of ocean reefs during sunset or nighttime? I'm really trying to get a good idea of what it might possibly look like, since I've heard that reefs at night are actually fairly bright. I want to try to mimic my saltwater take accordingly so that my fish ar...
