Re: Are Puffers The smartest fish

See, the thing is, I'm biased. I'm automatically inclined to say that puffers are, by far, the smartest fish regardless of what anyone would've posted :P

Re: Cycled Tank?

Try Lowe's Hardware store. I believe the brand that Lowe's sells comes in two types: one with surfactants and one without. Both bottles, however, indicate that both brands contain surfactants, but if my memory serves me correct, the clear bottle does not bubble up or contain surfactants. I can't rec...

Re: Fishless Cycling

There was probably only enough bacteria to seed your tank with -some- bacteria but probably still not enough to cycle your water immediately with that much ammonia. The ammonia by itself should naturally be building up your biological filtration; however, this will take some time regardless. Best of...

Re: Cycled Tank?

I would double check the nitrates. If your tank is cycled, your test kits should be showing traces of nitrates. If you are 100 percent sure that there are no nitrates, then your tank is not cycled.

Re: Keeping puffers entertained

I'm thinking about buying one of those bird toys designed to hide food and the bird has to find a way to get it. Or I'll make something or a challenge for my puffer to stimulate their minds Haha, I wonder how much mental stimulation a GSP truly needs. Mine seem to think about nothing but food all d...

As much as I hate Walmart, they sell Jungle parasite medicine. It's the fizz tab type which I believe is what you're looking for.

Re: breeding snails 4 their tea!!

We naturally have a large source of copper in aquarium--large enough to inhibit inverts from living. If you have any problem raising ramshorns, this might be the cause.

Re: Hydor Koralia - Newbie Reef Questions

Hmm... Yeah, I might go with the 2s. I just don't want there to be too much water current, because my GSPs aren't exactly the best swimmers :( but I also want enough to keep the corals healthy. My GSPs are fat and kinda sluggish and can't seem to swim through waves as well as the tomato clown, so I ...

Re: 6x54 watt T5; bulb and brand Q

I buy from this guy on eBay. He sells about 4 lights for 40 dollars (shipping included, 48" T5s). It's a generic brand, and I'm not sure of the actual quality of the bulbs, but my discus planted tank is flourishing using a 6700k and a 1200k.

Re: Hydor Koralia - Newbie Reef Questions

[/quote] I wish I had a koralia wavemaker... Lucky... Im stuck with my old redseawavemaster pro and 4 mj1200s and one koralia 4 (90g) I think the two koralia 1s would be fine for a tank that size, I would try positing them at either end of the tank so the currents colide, it might take some time to ...

Re: GSP Newbie - Its a long read....

Yep, my parrots are super aggressive. I have two separate community tanks--one is mixed with cichlids and parrots and the other is just parrots. In the cichlid community tank, I currently have three parrots: one larger female and two smaller males. They coexist fairly well and are housed with about ...

Hydor Koralia - Newbie Reef Questions

Hey Folks, I'm taking preparations to jump start my first attempt at reef keeping. At the moment, I currently have a 60 gallon long with about 25 pounds of rock and 2 inches of crushed coral substrate. I plan to switch out the crushed coral for aragonite sand at a later point by perhaps having a ver...

Re: Moving Tips

We get a lot of power outages in my part of California, so I keep a bunch of those airstones as backup for whenever we have a blackout. It's pretty nice when considering a battery operated backup would cost me much more, and I'd need one for every tank in my house.

Re: Moving Tips

Well, if it's a drive or something and you're keeping him in a 5 gallon bucket, buy a couple of heat packs. They're what most people use whenever they have to ship live fish. They'll keep your water warm for awhile. The brand Tom's also sells "airstones" that'll produce bubbles in your wat...

Re: Could it be tapeworm?

Well, it definitely looks like internal parasites. Puffers are pretty sensitive to medication, so I will let someone else advise you on possible treatments for your fahaka. I'd be careful about those feeder fishes, though. Almost all feeder fish contain a significant source of internal parasites, an...
