Re: Looking for suggestions for a solo puffer in 55g tank.
I keep a hairy and an arrowhead both solo in their own 65b tanks and I lucked out on getting two very outgoing little puffs that are pretty active. I know this is not the case for everyone. The hairy puffer was my first and there is just something about her personality that still years later makes h...

Re: How many of TPF members have bought from an online source?
Strong bump!! Yep, raised from the dead kind of bump! Since this got brought up again I thought I would comment on the subject. I have two puffers, an Arrowhead and Hairy, both of which were ordered online from Wet Spot in Portland Oregon. Granted Im only one state over in Washington and its like a...

Re: Special Petco
I have my local Petco that will bring in special fish on occasion. Never approached them to special order anything but they do suprise me on occasion with what they order in. Ive seen lemon oscars, red devils, ropefish as an example. These are usually not the typical fish offered. But then a few mil...

Re: A bit of a shock....
I have read all kinds of theories on how to sex hairy puffers. Some believe that males have more ‘cirri’ on their faces or elongated ‘hair’ compared to females. Others say the male tends to be darker, while the female is lighter. I read of one person who aquired a pair saying the hairier one had a s...

Re: A bit of a shock....
I feel bad because I thought Scruffy was looking 'fat' so I put her on a diet. Then she was acting a bit lethargic and did not interact a whole lot with me. Little did I know she was heavy with eggs. Today she looks thin and seems famished so I fed her a night crawler and been watching her. She is i...

A bit of a shock....
So I got a bit of a shock from my little 'Scruffy' (the hairy puffer) https://d28lcup14p4e72.cloudfront.net/179144/4107487/IMG_20181006_123148316.jpg Doing a gravel vac, I see this... https://d28lcup14p4e72.cloudfront.net/179144/4209748/IMG_20181209_095814065.jpg https://d28lcup14p4e72.cloudfront.ne...

Re: My 300g CustomAquariums.com tank
Still happy with everything. The company uses a high quality black silicone and all seals look great. Stocking is in my signature with the main cichlid being the pearsei at 14-15” and the het at about 9”. The bichirs are in the 15-19” range. Tank looks empty but the fish are all large and have their...

Re: My 300g CustomAquariums.com tank
I know a lot of people thought I was crazy going glass with this big of a tank but Im not a fan of acrylic. Ive owned acrylic and it was a ton of work keeping it looking good and it always looked scratchy with me constantly having to buff it out. So I went glass and Im still happy I did. Also doing ...
