Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
Well I hope the new powerhead lasts more than a couple of weeks! :? I get scared when I see your tank. It's like my future staring me in the face. After vowing that this will be a fowlr, I found myself randomly googling everything there is to know about bubble tip anemones. What is happening?? So af...

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
Happy New Year! Best wishes to everyone for a wonderful 2016 :D Very exciting couple of days. On the bad news front, I learned a lesson with my powerhead purchase. After reading a ton of good reviews I bought a SunSun 1585 GPH Dual Pump Wavemaker Powerhead from Amazon. It seemed to work great for a ...

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
Yes, that was one of the first things I read. Hope springs eternal, right? There are a few things in my favour, they were in a big community tank in LFS, they are young right now, I'm introducing them into tank in certain order, blah blah all of which I know may not matter, but I'll know & not w...

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
Thanks - good to know! Maybe I'll get lucky, like with the Remora. The clowns were not eating the mysis until I realized they only wanted the tiny pieces :? Btw here's my little bit of advice: use chopsticks to feed your fish. It works great! They take the food right off your chopsticks so no messy ...

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
I've read enough on both sides and fully expect that puffers may end up the only fish in the tank. I just really wanted to try it so it wouldn't always be something I wondered about. The goby is great at hiding & darts around super fast. It's the clowns at feeding time that I worry about. They a...

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
Hope you all had a great Christmas! I went on my Boxing Day trip to the LFS. Huge lineup! I totally under-estimated how crazy these fish people are :D Anyway, I came home with a pair of Nemos, a yellow watchman goby and a pistol shrimp (fine-stripe). I know I know. I am really hoping the puffers are...

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
I don't think so. More like shrimps? But fluffy, and white. I don't think it's diatoms either.
Rock & sand look clean too. There are lots of amphipods running around when lights are out.
There are little orange starfish but only with three arms?

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
I think it might be copepods? If so they are a good thing I think - an indication of a healthy tank. Except I don't have a mandarin in there to enjoy them :D The glass is covered, especially the front. They are stuck on the glass despite the good water flow & seem really light/fluffy. I've stare...

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
Whew, ok good to know. SW is so fascinating. The diversity of life is just crazy & there is so much to learn/discover. My husband is complaining that my face is stuck in my phone, as I'm googling one thing or another. I did WC on my daughter's guppy tank yesterday & it seemed so simple,haha....

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
75 gallons. 55 lbs live rock, 30 lbs base rock. So should I be concerned about this white fluff? You can actually see it in thd 3rd pic, like white specks. I'm worried about thd mushrooms. First I googled re clownfish & was like, yay they sometimes host clownfish. Then I read a few more threads ...

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
So I added some base rock & hope it gets seeded as time goes on. I added a couple of hermits & they crawled into the rock somewhere - hope I see them again at some point. I just did a 30% WC and the readings are: S: 1.22 PH: 8 A: 0 NO2: O NO3: 20 Kinda worried about nitrate as it hasn't come...

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
Ok great, that sounds easy. I think I'll re-do the rock-scaping a bit, do a water change & set up the new skimmer this weekend. I guess I can take down the AC110 for now until I figure out what to do with it. Do you think it would be useful down the road if I tried to make a DIY refugium out of ...

Re: Starting up new tank for my GSPs
So many conflicting opinions on the web. So I was thinking that since there's nothing in the tank right now except for 2 turbo snails and 2 million bristle worms, now might be a good time to throw in the extra rock without risking any fish. I've been staring at my rock work & also was thinking a...
