Re: imposter dwarf puffer-tail variation?

Is tail fanning always for display purposes? My crew fan their tails pretty much anytime they're not moving. I have 3 males and 2 females in the throes of adolescence, and if they're showing off for one another that much now, I shudder to think what future months have in store.

Re: Dp not eating

My DPs won't touch krill or mysis shrimp. They can be picky little buggers. As everybody else said, don't worry till it's been more than a few days that he's not eating. You might also want to ask the LFS where you bought him what they were feeding, since he looked so nice and rounded when you bough...

Re: How long b4 my dwarf will eat?

I got lucky and my DPs ate on their first day, but as others have said, it can definitely take them a while to settle in. I wouldn't worry until it's been more than 3 days of not eating.

Enchanted by my dwarf puffers

I've had my dwarf puffers for a little more than 2 weeks now. I started out with 6 (had planned on having 5 DPs in my 29 gallon, but while bagging them for me, the LFS owner found one little scraggly skinny runt hiding in a cave -- I couldn't just leave him there). Unfortunately, it seems the skinny...

Re: Brackish water change w/ Python?

You guys are awesome. Thanks for all the great info! I'm feeling even more confident that there will indeed be a couple of F8s in my future. I can definitely manage one bucket of water, even two, but carrying half a tank's worth back and forth would definitely put my back out. All righty then. Just ...

Brackish water change w/ Python?

I'm trying to learn as much as I can about brackish tanks, because I'm pretty positive there will be some F8 puffers in my future -- maybe not for a while, but someday... IF I can still use my Python. I love my Python. My Python makes the world go 'round. I can't go back to lugging buckets to refill...

Re: One thing you don't want to hear...

I confess that I've done the idiotic "Hey, This Canister Filter Isn't Flowing Right, I Should Take the Top Off and Look at the Impeller" thing more than once. Without unplugging it. SIGH.

Re: 6 Dwarf Puffs in a Pirate Tank

That's the filter outflow. The tank has a Rena XP2 canister (300 gph), and that's the jet nozzle. I was worried that there would be too much current for the DPs, but they really seem to like it. Thanks for all the kind words on my pics! I love having a place to share them. More plants? Really? This ...

6 Dwarf Puffs in a Pirate Tank

Hi! I'm new to puffers but not new to keeping fish (I've had fancy goldfish for many years). But I've been bitten by the puffer bug, and wanted to share my new buddies. I researched and decided freshwater was the way for me to go (keeping DPs is remarkably similar to keeping fancy goldfish so far --...

Considering Red Tailed Redeye Puffers

I'm new to puffers altogether, but not new to keeping fish. I have a fully cycled 29 gallon (feeding filter with ammonia currently) that just needs decorating to make it ready for puffers. I assumed I'd get dwarf puffers, but one local LFS has C. irrubesco in stock, and they're adorable. In case I d...
