Re: Mixing Salt/Tank Maintenance
Your gravel vac relies on gravity so if there isn't a large fall (distance to the floor) then the draw won't be as strong. If you want to use a pond pump to pump water into the tank then you need to look at the 'head'. The 'head' will tell you how high the pump can pump the water up to but bear in m...

Re: Mixing Salt/Tank Maintenance
I used to use a bucket when I had a 60 litre tank and would mix the salt in the bucket as and when I needed it. Now that my tank is around 200 litres I have extended my siphon hose so that it reaches out of the window and into the front garden. I also have a 125 litre water butt that I usually fill ...

Re: New 200 Litre Tank Set-up Plans?
I'm in the UK. I have tried mail order in the past but the fish I ordered turned up dead. That plus the only mail order 'shop' that I could find any of the species for sale was an ebay seller I decided not to chance it.
I'll try to get a couple of pics up soon.

Re: New 200 Litre Tank Set-up Plans?
So we are almost a year after setting up the new tank and I've just got some tank mates for my puffer. I researched lots of fish and decided that I would get some Humpback Limias and an Orange Chromide. I asked 2 of the local fish shops and another not so local fish shop to order them in for me and ...

Re: Brackish Tank Set Up
Regarding the fertiliser, is this the mix you were on about livesinazoo? "1 kilogram (1 litre) of typical commercial Nitrogen liquid contains 10.5 grams of soluble nitrogen from the [Urea + Nitrate salts] and 20 grams of soluble potassium. This will on average set you back £28 or so. That same...

Re: Brackish Tank Set Up
I use dry salts and make up a macro mix and a micro mix. I use the concentrations listed about mid-way down in the following article: http://www.ukaps.org/index.php?page=dosing-with-dry-salts The place that I bought my ferts from don't sell the dry salts any more but these do: http://www.aquariumpla...

Re: Natural sea water
I don't personally because I don't have a marine tank, the only recommendation that I've read is to collect it a little way from the shore to minimise the chance of collecting pollutants and also to watch that you don't collect harmful critters. If you do choose to collect local sea water I doubt th...

Re: Starting a new tank. What can I put in it?
Have been looking at f8s, red eyes and dwarfs. Am I missing any other species that would fit in this tank? Would a 20 high be cramped for a single f8? How are they personality wise? Or would it be fishality? I liked the way the gsp would come to the front of the tank and be curious... Until the poo...

Re: New setup and got algea already??
Diatom algae is really common in new tanks, it normally takes a couple of months for it to disappear, then it gets replaced with a green algae!

Re: Brackish Tank Set Up
I think I'm moving more towards a F8 so there are few things I need to know. Apparently plants help the tank stay clean but not a great deal thrive in BW. So which plants are easy to maintain for a beginner? What substrate should I use? Any fertiliser or anyting else I should be aware of? What filt...

I've heard that they might be mistaking the spores on the bottom of the leaves that form the new plantlets for snails.

There's a member on here called Bertie who used to post quite frequently who had SAPs, you could try PM'ing him to see if he could offer his experience.

Looks more like a parasite to me - maybe an anchor worm?
I'm not sure what the best form of treatment would be - maybe something like Lice-solve?

Re: Stocking help
What about with this "brackish salt" i bought made by seachem? It claims that it provides the salt necessary for brackish water but without affecting live plants. Brackish water is basically diluted sea water therefore requires the same salt as a marine aquarium but at lower quantities an...
