Re: pale f8, lethargic, help please!!
Higher temp may increase appetite. Soak the worms in garlic to help with that, too & enhance flavor. yeah that's what I was thinking. From experience with having to force metronidazole down animals throats, I know that is tastes HORRIBLE. I also had a vet that I worked for made me taste it. And...

Re: pale f8, lethargic, help please!!
I got API parasite stuff, because no tetra parasite guard. They are packets of powder, each packet has 250 mg metronidazole and 75 praziquantel. I only put a tiny sprinkle in the bloodworms mix, maybe 1/10 of the packet if that yesterday. The puffers might have eaten a few of them but spit mot of th...

Re: pale f8?
I haven't heard back from the water company yet, but the f8 is getting a little bit worse. Still eating, but laying around a lot, on leaves and on the sand. Definitely not as chipper as she was. I did a 25% wc tonight, even though the water was the same as before. Nitrates might have been slightly h...

Re: pale f8?
I didn't even think about that, I will give them a call and see what they say. Thanks! As far as the tank being complex, I think that it is. I made a slate structure with caves and swim throughs, as well as a lot of fake plants of varying heights and a tree stump decoration(fake) that also has swim ...

pale f8, lethargic, help please!!
So one of the new puffers looks a little pale to me, compared to the other one. Also she( I call this one the girl, no particular reason why) seems to be less energetic than the other one. I have also noticed her laying around on the sand, while the other one zips around the tank constantly 'hunting...

Re: sponge filter for snail breeding
well I sorted as best I could, I think I got atleast the majority of them sorted and put the majority of the eggs in with the ramshorn. While I was sorting I saw them lay quite a few, so I think the majority are probably those. I guess we will see in a few months:)

Re: Is my cycle stalled...
the 2 LFS that I went to used liquid tests. because they got the same readings that I did, in addition we did a test strip to see if there was a difference. the test strip didn't register any ammonia so I figured it was innacurate. but it was definitely the prime that caused the low false positive, ...

Re: Is my cycle stalled...
I can't remember where i read it before but prime can cause false ammonia readings when tested with certain test kits. will see if I can find that. if you have nitrAte there has to be some of each bacteria living in your filters/tank. second and third question/answer on seachems site, linked below....

Re: Is my cycle stalled...
the ammonia reading out of the tap is 0 ppm. it does say on seachems website that prime dissipates within 24-48 hrs, but I still got the same results between doses after the prime should have been gone and before I did the water change.

Re: Is my cycle stalled...
Yeah I did. Water/nitrite 0 ppm, nitrate around 10. pH-7.2, straight from the tap. The water around here is hard though, I live in a beach town so I think that probably has something to do with it. When I had to essentially start over, I added tetra safe start plus from petsmart, used as directed. I...

Re: sponge filter for snail breeding
So the snails came in, and I'm not too happy. I ordered both pond and ram shorn snails, both breeding groups with eggs. Well, I asked her to make sure to keep the 2 different kinds separate. That didn't happen at all. Everything is all mixed up, and I have no idea what to do about that. I can try to...

Is my cycle stalled...
I am a little concerned that my tank is at a standstill cycle wise. After having to start all over approx a week and a half ago, I haven't seen much change. Water parameters: amm-0.25 up until yesterday when it got closer to 0.5 Nitrite-0, except for 1 day when it went up to 0.25-0.5, then back to 0...

Re: sponge filter for snail breeding
I thought you meant supplements for the snails instead of the plants!! Haha oops, silly me. I have some cuttlebones lying around so I can definitely throw one in there. My parrot hates them, she is convinced that cuttlebones are evil things that must be immediately disposed of( she throws them out o...

Re: sponge filter for snail breeding
Ok, what if I kept the buckets outside on the porch with the lids off so they get real sunlight? And put some plants in there? Also, as far as the vit and min supplements, are you talking about a liquid water additive, or a powder?

Re: sponge filter for snail breeding
I use the word tanks very loosely, they are going into buckets with lids that will have small holes in it. The buckets are about 4-5 gallons each, I'll measure when I fill them up. And I'll get some clear tubes instead, thanks!
