Re: Questions About Red Eye Puffers and Dwarf Puffers
Part of the variation you see on recommended tank sizes may also be from the measures used by the country of origin. This particular site is hosted in the USA, and our gallon is smaller than the British or Imperial gallon. Our ten-gallon tanks are smaller than British ten-gallon tanks. But our membe...

Re: Questions About Red Eye Puffers and Dwarf Puffers
The so-called aquariun "lotus" are actually water lilies, and the can form excellent shade plantings in many tanks if their floating leaves are allowed to develop, but I actually prefer the so-called "banana plants" which have heavier floating leaves, green on the exposed surface...

Re: Help! From brackish to marine
Sorry, but you have two incompatible fish co-housed temporarily. At and after sexual maturity, the GSP will be at least 2x the length of the F-8 or more and 4x or more it's mass. The GSP will harass or kill the F-8 most likely. As either of these fish can live 15-20+ years in captivity if properly m...

Daphnia are too big for most puffer fry's first food. The microworms are worth a shot. Keep us posted on how the fry do.

Tank size and other inhabitants?
In general, mixing puffers is high-risk IME.

Re: Questions About Red Eye Puffers and Dwarf Puffers
Sorry to disagree with others, but I am more conservative than many hobbyists. I like to think that my conservatism is from well over 50 years of keeping puffers. The only puffer I would keep in a 10 US gallon tank is a DP, and I would not keep three of those in less than a 15 US gallon tank. I do n...

Herself gets some decent shots, but not pro quality. She would have to upgrade for that.

Yup, the GSP will do best long-term in full marine conditions, while the F-8 should be in light brackish water. Both of these should be long-lived fish under good care, but need to be housed separately.

Re: fahaka and a large albino pleco
When a large puffer is hungry, food is food. My T. mbu lived with a large African catfish for three years, then I came home one day and found nothing left of the cat but the pectoral girdle with those big pectoral spines. The T. mbu was quite plump and lethargic. I learned my lesson too late, but I ...

Even in the digital age, high-end photo equipment is painfully pricey. My wife has a closet full of photo gear, but all her best stuff is out of date these days. She has not invested in equal quality digital gear. If our son reproduces, I suspect that will change.

Re: I have a tiny little baby puff! :D UPDATE! FOUR baby puf
Most puffer fry are too small to eat commercial foods unfortunately. In the wild they rely on infusoria, which in captivity we have to cultivate separately, along with live foods for the infusoria as well. This makes breeding puffers other than DPs quite a complex undertaking.

Re: fishless cycling issues
Basically I agree w/Pufferpunk in that you need to have the unoxidized waste material present to feed the bacteria. But hobbyists with little or no background in science and math tend to forget that the scales we use are orders of magnitude. A hobby grade test kit for ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate re...
