Re: 30 gal for my beta?
Upload your pictures to Photobucket and post a link. :) Sand can definitely cloud your tank, so rinse it first. The simplest way is to get a bucket and a hose, put some sand in the bucket, fill it with water so the dust clouds it up, pour off the water... repeat until the water stays clear... repeat...

You can get even better prices in the "Swap-and-Shop" section of plantedtank.net's forums. You have to be a member to view the forum, though.

Re: 30 gal for my beta?
Low light in a 30g is 0.5-1.5 watts per gallon (WPG). To clean sand, you run the siphon near the surface of the sand. It can take longer to get the dirt up, but most of it will stay on the surface, so you don't have to worry about digging into the sand and sucking it up. Pool filter sand is cheap, a...

Re: Walmart
If I could press a button and immediately kill every abused, neglected, and homeless animal in the world, I would. I understand how you feel. It also sucks that fish don't have legal protection. But I figured Jeni wouldn't want anyone to openly suggest anything illegal on her site.

Sure. Swords, java ferns, java moss, crypts, anubias, wisteria - all of those would grow in low light. plantedtank.net is great for getting started with live plants.

Re: 30 gal for my beta?
Your betta isn't acting like the ones you've seen in bowls because he has heat and clean water - not to mention the room to move! Bettas need high-end tropical temperatures - preferably 78-80 - to digest their food properly and metabolize energy. Now that he's got room to move and a comfortable temp...

Re: My Goldfish Aquarium
Considering that fancies can get up to 10" (excluding tail), and that they are thick-bodied, and that produce a ton of waste relative to other fish their size... No, ten gallons each is not NEARLY enough! And commons are really only fit for ponds, since they can reach lengths measured in feet i...

Re: 30 gal for my beta?
Whether or not these guys all get along depends on your betta. My friend's betta slaughtered all eight of her cories, but other bettas ignore them or even sometimes school with them. Tetras might be nippy and aggressive, but the same could be said for the betta. The shrimp might be fine, but their b...

Re: 30 gal for my beta?
Congratulations on your discovery. Bettas are wonderful little fish with fun personalities who do deserve space to move and clean, warm water! This excellent caresheet (http://www.ultimatebettas.com/index.php?showtopic=18075) has info on betta tankmates. But he will also be very happy alone - and yo...
