Re: Online Fish Seller Complaint
I'd file through paypal/eBay under "item not as described". They'll most likely file in your favor if you have to escalate the case (ie, uncooperative seller). Takes about a week, but you should get a 100% refund of shipping and purchase price. Sorry for your loss, seems a lot of people w...

http://www.thepufferforum.com/forum/library/hospital/internal-parasites-prevention-and-treatment/ Thanks for the info. Metro was ordered. Haven't found a good Praziquantel source yet. Got my microscope out storage and should take a look at his feces, but haven't gotten too it yet. Today he got suck...

Re: Products to use for Instant Cycling!
I'm a scientist so I like precise detailed technical answers. Most people don't care for technical details and just want to be given the important bottom line. I realize this makes me very abnormal to many people's way of thinking, but I can't help it. Thanks to both of you RTR & PP. You both ro...

Fin Addict Saltwater Fish - Buyer Beware
Is this a topic that can be discussed here naming the company name? We purchased a "Spiny Box Puffer" from a Florida seller that shipped to Maine: 1. In the middle of a period of extreme cold during a major snowstorm (site says shipping will be held for bad weather) 2. Placing the 1.5 inch...

Leaky CoralLife 36 Watt UV x2
We purchased the unit on the subject line. The first unit shut down about 4 hours after installation having leaked into the bulb enclosure until it reached the bulb contacts and shorted the power supply. After the bulb electronics were removed the root cause was apparent; it leaked through a crack i...

Re: Hi from FishFan and FishFancier after 5 years away
I would alternate Metro-Prazi, 2 different weeks, treating a minimum of 3 days each--covers different parasites. Treat again in 3 months. Thanks! He is eating very well, so s/b no problem. PP, do you recommend medicating food or in-tank bath? Can you recommend products known safe for Burrfish? Than...

Re: Products to use for Instant Cycling!
By definition, an instantly cycled tank would show zero positive ammonia(1) and nitrite(2) readings from the time of adding the "instant cycle" product, and a positive increase in the nitrate(3) titer. I wonder if it is possible to put a product in a tank with no nitrites and establish ni...

Re: Burrfish - Rapid Change Chameleon
They are very close kin - two dental plates rather than puffers' four dental plates (along with other differences) - but not exactly "Puffers" even though they do inflate. We have to expect differences between the two big subsection of the family. Calling them Burtrfish, as you do, or Spi...

Burrfish - Rapid Change Chameleon Act
Anne and I noticed color changes in our Burmese puffers, where normally white tummies would turn black. We saw the same thing in our Webbed Burrfish. We never saw a puffer change pigment rapidly like we observed tonight from our Orbicular Burrfish. In the course of a couple seconds we noted his base...

Do you have a regimen you can recommend? I don't recall what we did in the past other than Metronadozole-soaked shrimp meat.Pufferpunk wrote:Especially, the burrfish species. They often have to be dewormed with different meds, several times.

Re: Hi from FishFan and FishFancier after 5 years away
Hmm, added Bio-Spira and Nitrite dropped to zero in 24 hours. Maybe that stuff works...maybe. Ammonia=0. for two days, Nitrite=0, Nitrate rising slowly. Salinity 1.022. Feeding heavier now too. The pH is still lowish at 8.0. Trying Omega Sea Premium Reef Salt vs. Instant Ocean to see if greater alka...

Re: Hi from FishFan and FishFancier after 5 years away
He sure is good at camouflage! Can you add Bio-Spira? We used Bio-Spira when adding the fish, but another dose couldn't hurt. Good idea we were not considering. Morning readings show the classic drop in ammonia followed by rising nitrite. ph is 8.0 which is still a bit lower than optimum, but low r...

Re: Hi from FishFan and FishFancier after 5 years away
May I ask why you decided to put the fish in before the cycle was over? The tank was cycled over a few weeks prior to the puffer introduction using an accelerated approach and is responding as expected with the first large fish introduction. The fish coming in larger and sooner than expected is pro...
