Re: Terrance's 46g Mixed Reef Build
Its been a while since I've updated. 2 weeks ago, I got a rose anemone for cheap. Rose is still moving around the tank, looking around for a good spot to sit and settle. People say wait at least 6 months, but I'd rather not skip the good deal. My tank is not the traditional fish + coral tank. I thin...

Fangs is pretty common puffer in my area. Throw in some live shrimps and see their hunting skills

Re: Crazy Valentini Puff "Bloat" Sleeping!
If live rocks are not wanted, then rinse some chaeto or macro algae from another hobbyist in your display tank. Also borrrow a piece of live rocks from an eatablished tank that you trust. Both method help my zooplankton population explode in my reef with only cycled base rocks.

Re: Diver Saves Puffer from Hook
A hook should not be pulled out IME. It causes more harm than good.
I hope the puffer will heal up without any infections. Its better than having a hook in the mouth though.

Thanks for sharing the valentini pics. The shrimps help prevent glass surfing

Re: Storing prepared saltwater
I think you would be ok to leave premixed saltwater in a jug because that is what i did when i had water leftover after water changes. When i googled this topic, a lot of people say leave the water circulated, so that is what i do now. then turn on the heater overnight prior to water change.

Re: Storing prepared saltwater
Are water changes the way you maintain Cal, Alk, and Mag? Or do you dose?

I think the HOB filter would have too strong of a current.

Have you ever heard or tried feeding chopped up raw shrimp instead of mysis?Pufferpunk wrote:You're probably just polluting the tank with the powdered foods. Stick with spot-feeding those LPS the mysis (I soak in vita-chem & Selcon), with the flow off.

Re: Terrance's 46g Mixed Reef Build
the calcium reactor will be for the 120g upgrade and all other equipment going forward will be for the 120g.
i use kalkwasser in the ato, calcium & alk always stay the same as long as magnesium is above 1200.

Re: Terrance's 46g Mixed Reef Build
My numbers are Ca 400, Alk 10.4, Mag 1250 with the Red Sea kit. I would like the Ca to be at least 420 though.

Re: Terrance's 46g Mixed Reef Build
I've been spot feeding the corals. The reviews for both is really good, even with a Google search on reef forums. I will cut back on the Reef Chili and Coral Frenzy if algae starts showing up, and go with mainly mysis. My diatoms is starting up. Before the MP, I'll get a calcium reactor and fix my p...
