Re: My DPs had babies!

I'll definitely check the filter when I get home today. It's a canister, so I'm thinking I won't find any live babies, but you never know -- thanks for the tip!

"Speck" was alive when I left for work this morning (incredibly hard to spot even in a tiny tank!). Fingers crossed...

Re: DP feeding

Billy has been eating more, which is good i hope. One side of her stomach is thin, and her poop is white and stringy. I think there may be a parasite. Should I treat the whole tank or just the one puffer? The other puffer is still doing fine, and so is the rest of my tank. I've read that it's alway...

My DPs had babies!

So last night I was feeding my DPs their usual meal of frozen bloodworms when I noticed this little speck floating around the tank (I turn the filter off when I feed so the food doesn't get sucked up). But it seemed to be doing more than just floating -- it was SWIMMING. I put my glasses on and real...

Re: I got 2 DPs today!!

Congratulations on your new DPs! They must be large/old enough that you can tell their sex if you already know you have a male and a female. I would have loved if my LFS had slightly older DPs so I could have chosen better (I ended up with 3 males and 2 females, eeeek!).

Enjoy your puffs!

Re: How Much Aeration?

is the sediment you are seeing the crystallization of the hard water sediment? Nope, not hard water -- definitely salt. Only occurs when using salt, and I've tasted it. Why do you use the aquarium salt in the there. Its kinda unnecessary. Aqua Salt is more for killing ICK. Yes it does improve...

How Much Aeration?

I'm trying to learn everything I can about keeping brackish puffers -- I'm certain there will be one or two Figure 8s or possibly a single GSP in my future. How much (if any) aeration do these two puffers need in their tank? I've only kept freshwater aquariums, but I know that when treating my goldf...

Re: Q's about FW DP's

I have five semi-adolescent (about half-grown) DPs in a 29 gallon tank, and now that they're older I've discovered that I have 3 males and 2 females. So far, so good, though, and I'm hoping that I have as much success as pufferpuggirl with them continuing to get along. i will be sure to add ...

My DPs seem to like frozen mysis shrimp. I feed them those once a week or so. I've also heard that some DPs will eat frozen glassworms (although mine wouldn't).

Re: Filter

I personally think the easiest to use and most reliable ones for the best price are the Rena Filstars. I second this. I have Rena Filstar xP canisters on all my tanks, and they're real workhorses. They also turn over a huge number of gallons per hour for their size and price. Love mine. PetMountain...

Re: New to dwarf puffers but not puffers.....

As pufferpuggirl said, DPs have TONS of personality. They're totally interactive with their owners, swarming in front of the glass anytime you come near the tank. They swim actively during the day and are really fun to watch. I think of them as being similar to teen-tiny GSPs.

Re: puffer tankmates overstocked?

I agree that 15 DPs in a 55 gallon would be just fine. I have 5 in a 29 gallon and it seems awfully understocked sometimes. But I don't want to rock the boat by introducing new ones.

Always off at night. Fish need sleep, too! yup

Re: 2 SAP's in a 15 gallon tank?

Definitely consider dwarf puffers -- they're awfully fun! I didn't think I'd be entertained by such small fish, but those little guys pack a huge punch personality-wise. A 15-gallon tank would be perfect for DPs. And they're 100% freshwater, and just as easy to keep as any tropical fish.

Re: Addicted to puffers

I totally understand the addiction thing, because I'm in the throes of it myself. My 5 DPs just aren't enough to quench that puffer jones, you know? There are definitely a couple of Figure 8s in my future. I've been a fancy goldfish keeper since the early '90s. NOTHING else. Until now. And puffers R...
