Re: Multiple Puffers

If I were a puffer I'd darn sure rather live in a 300 gallon vat than a 29 gallon glass tank.

Good luck with your project, Cu455. We all look forward to more pictures.

That's a very nice looking fish. :D

I'd say your new skimmer is doing its thing with gusto.

Re: A good reason for a systematic analysis of tank -

Different animals work differently, my cats have a warm coat of fur to keep them warm, fish don't. We move or shiver, fish shut down etc. all creatures evolve differently, for instance cats evolved to eat fish, fish didn't have cats on the menu etc lol Bertie, I just saw this and thought of your qu...

Re: Fat fish?

Might it be logical to suggest two equally-spaced feedings per week of less caloric volume per session ?
One week seems to be a long time to go between meals.

It sounds like you have a wonderful fish, congrats.

Here's a diver getting educated on the power of a porcupine puffer's bite.

Not a real bright move.

Re: The Intelligence of Puffers vs. other Fish ?

It might also help to explain their huge appetite. More grey matter requires more protein to function. Heh. If that was the case, my fancy goldfish would be the Einsteins of the aquatic world. And trust me, they ain't. But they're starving 24/7 and have enormous heads. Point taken. Mola...

When Wild Puffers Attack - Ouch !

I was curious, and did some digging. There actually are a few documented rogue attacks by large puffers on humans. The Cambodia and FL Keys incidents would no doubt qualify as a provoked attacks. My apology if any of these have been previously posted. http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/post/puffer-fish-...

Re: The Intelligence of Puffers vs. other Fish ?

Thanks for your input, Pufftastic and bertie 83. When one looks at a typical Puffer, the large shape if the head seems to dominate the animal's frame. Perhaps there's a larger brain in there compared to most other species of aquarium fish ? It might also help to explain their huge appetite. More gre...

The Intelligence of Puffers vs. other Fish ?

My impression is that puffers seem to have more intelligence and reasoning capacity compared with other species of fish. Their careful scanning of objects while hunting, and obvious awareness of the outside (dry) world seems exceptional. As I've never personally kept a puffer, I'm basing my opinion ...

Re: How did you find The Puffer Forum?

I used several search engines including Ixquick, and Yahoo.

The Puffer Forum stood out as having the most pounce-per-ounce of useful information, all in one cool place.

Re: Can puffers eat maggots?

Due to the infection potential from their life cycle ( typically from carrion ) I'd urge real caution handling in them at all. That being said, they're basically soft bodied worms. I'm betting most puffers will slorp 'em right down. I DO know that freshwater Bass and Bream will gobble them up like c...

Greetings. I'd like to sign up for "Puffer Fish 101"

Howdy, folks. Cheers from a diver, fisherman, and former aquarium owner who has been out of the hobby for a few years. I'm hoping, with some help from the obvious experts here....to ease back into The Aquarium Zone. I've kept a fair share of unusual fish over the years, but never even considered puf...

Re: Piggy bit my fingertip off

The power of a Puffer's bite is simply amazing.

I do not approve of this fisherman's treatment of his catch,
but this fish is taking chunks out of a soda can like it is
made out of Swiss cheese. Video - 40 - seconds
