Re: Sharp nose puffers

While it's true that tobies aren't as aggressive as, say, porcs and dogface puffs, they're still pufferfish at heart and will probably go after your shrimp. They may or may not pick at corals - I have a few polyps and a mushroom growing on the live rock, nothing major, but my tobies never bothered t...

Re: HELP!! red patches on side of tank + red coating on airt

Lack of oxygen; combined with inadequate water movement.
BedScien wrote:Sorry to hear that, man. Thanks for the heads up!

Just out of curiosity, did you find out what it was about the bacteria that wiped out your tank? E.g. ammonia? Lack of oxygen? pH?

Re: Winter!

As a Chicago native who has been displaced by the cold/snow/taxes, I have to say that winters are pretty mild here in Louisville. We just don't get a lot of snow. I'd say no more than 5 inches all season (Chi-town gets about that much per serving) and the temps rarely dip below 20 F. This winter, th...

Re: Researching valentini puffers

I've owned Canthigaster puffers before, and they really are neat little fish. They're small, yet at the same time can be just as energetic as their larger counterparts. They are territorial, however, and a Canthigaster won't hesitate to attack another one in "his" fishtank.

Re: Quick Filtration Question

I have a Bioweel on my 40g marine tank, and removing 3 pounds of salt creep off the hood every month just happens to be one of my favorite hobbies! :D

Nah, I'm totally kidding. I've actually been looking at the aquaclear myself. If you're gonna go full marine, I'd say go ahead and get one.

Re: Tank setup for GSP

Yes they do! I have a GSP in full marine and I've never seen one look so bright and happy.
sgtmyers88 wrote:I agree totally that full marine is the way to go. GSP's seem more active, healthier, and more brightly colored in those conditions.

Re: Remodeled my Marine Puffer Tank

Nice tank, I like it! How do your two GSP's get along? Also, I had a question: I always heard that it isn't a good idea to have the rock touching the glass inside the aquarium; that the water pressure presses on the rock, rock presses on the glass on whichever little points are touching the glass an...

How do you guys deal with Aiptasia?

Just wanted to see what you guys have personally used for dealing with Aiptasia and how successful they are, since I really don't know anythigng about the little cretins. I had about 9 in my tank on two rocks. Now, these rocks didn't have any polyps or anything on them, so I simply pulled them out a...

Re: Young GSP's in full marine?

The LFS I got him from had him in brackish with a SG of 1.005. I drip acclimated him over a few hours to full marine water. Not once did he act uncomforatable or disturbed by the process.

Re: Young GSP's in full marine?

My new GSP has been in full salinity for several months now, and he's already grown a quarter of an inch. He's also a much brighter green, and extremely playful and active. Happy little critter.

Killing Aiptasia with Laser - fact or fiction?

Anybody seen this video on YouTube? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cbk7mA5PuAQ Some dude zaps an Aiptasia with a 750mW laser, and while I can't tell whether it really dies or not, it's clearly not happy about it. Anybody hear about this? And more importantly, does this really work? I ask because I'm...

Re: gsp in full marine

I have a new GSP that I drip acclimated just a couple of weeks ago to full marine. Took about 3 hours and he did just fine. I have a couple polyps and a mushroom growing on my live rock, and he checked them out when he first saw them but didn't make any move to take a bite out of them.
