Re: Tankmates for Congo
In a tank that small he will defo get them. For three fish, none of which is over 4"...a 38 isn't that small. It's 36" long...but I always enjoy identifying examples of FPE (forum passive elitism). Every animal forum I'm a member of is rife with it...little snippy quips to get closer to t...

Tankmates for Congo
Hi all, This is just an FYI that I have had two (Crossocheilus sp.) siamese algae eaters, or siamese flying foxes, if you prefer, living with my Congo joey for almost two months. They seem to have his number, and even when he is buried it is obvious that they know where he is. They are lightning fas...

My guess is they are both matching the sand...not each other.

Bristlenose Plecos and Joey the Congo...Best Friends!
Okay...I know this is real stupid...but here's the deal: Joey's 38 gallon is getting about 30 mins of direct sunlight every day on one corner of the tank. The algae is covering my anubias, and the nerites ain't gettin it done, and neither are water changes and a phosphate pillow. I can't move the ta...

Re: Congo puffers
Reefchik, Here is the thread where I detailed my Congo's demise...and that is the little dude I killed in the pic. He was a nice fish. Just cycle the tank longer...it may take you that long to find another congo anyway. I may be wrong, but "quick-fix" products that purport to cycle tanks i...

Re: Congo puffers
In the last five years, I have killed three puffers (2 suvatti and one congo) by putting them in tanks that had fully cycled, but only for a month or so. Nitrates, nitrites, ammonia all at zero. All three puffers died in less than two days...have no idea why. I talked to a buddy of mine that is a ge...

Re: T. Miurus Spawning Behavior - Best Guesses?
Yes...miurus is an aggressive fish, and that there will be risks in introducing two individuals. I would introduce them by putting one in a hang box, or by putting them into the breeding tank for the first time simultaneously. My breeding tank is a 125, which is currently empty. I will employ lots o...

Re: new baileyi pair
This is sweet stuff...congrats. Captive spawned hairys would be awesome. Do your baileyi ever bury themselves?
I'm curious...did you ever try to put two of your miurus together? If so...I am afraid to ask, but what happened?

T. Miurus Spawning Behavior - Best Guesses?
Hi Guys, I think I am going to get several miurus (as they become available) and try to spawn this awesome meat grinder of a fish. I have one (Joey) in a 38 gallon tank with a sand bottom. The others will be housed in 20 longs. I've never really set out to breed something, and I think this will be m...

Re: Congo Puffers...what color variants are most common imports?
Yeah...my Congo Joey was a nice rusty orange when I got him/her, but after a few months on cream pool filter sand has become much lighter...but it's cool, the burying and inhaling fish while barely moving the sand is why I love them...and the look on people's face when he hits a fish 3/4 his own len...

Re: Congo Puffer (T. Miurus) longevity
I know of tetras and rainbows that have lived for over five years, so my guess would be that a largely inactive predator like a Congo puffer could live several years longer...maybe fifteen. Thing is, they are all wild caught, so age at capture is pretty difficult to determine. Females of some tarant...
