Re: How many of TPF members have bought from an online source?
I would be hesitant to buy on e-bay. I live in the middle of nowhere's back backwoods so all my live stock have come from Drs. Foster and Smith's Liveaquaira.com except two puffers, one was as shipped from a private owner in PA and the other I happened across in the LFS and he didn't even know it wa...

Re: Is there a FW Ich expert in the house?
I've heard it both ways but it is confusing. There are three maturation stages the parasite goes through in life but it's actual infection cycle (for lack of a better term) consists of four phases. There is the trophozoite stage where it attaches to the fish, lives off the fish and becomes encapsula...

Wouldn't freeze the med because honestly I'm not sure if that would effect the integrity of it.

You could also try grating the shrimp with a hand grater, like you would with cheese. Soak the shredded shrimp with the med and then feed real small amounts.

Re: Split topic - Maracyn use
Ok everyone, this has gone on enough. I will not let this thread, that had great potential for learning for all involved, deteriorate in to a verbal sparring match, that is not what this forum is for. Forums are for discussion and I refer you to this posting from Thought Catalog: http://thoughtcatal...

Re: anyone have a good remedy for getting rid of mucus?
Ok, time to chime in late on this. Latest research is showing that pure non-pasturized honey helps decrease congestion, mucus production, and cough. There are ongoing studies in to possible natural antibiotic like effects too. Take a full undiluted teaspoon full every 6-8 hours and see if it helps.

Mix it up between medicated and non medicated snails to make sure he eats.

Re: GSP is still sick, fighting an uphill battle here.
Actually not total BS, the nitrfying bacteria in the tank is gram negative and maracyn is broad spectrum leaning towards gram positive bacteria. During the cycle the bacteria is fragile and maracyn can slow it's growth rate. Also the nitrification bacteria are not the only organisms being colonized ...

Re: GSP is still sick, fighting an uphill battle here.
The Maracyn is utter BS for this problem and will contribute to this fishes demise. So far through out the thread there has only been mention of ICH at the onset as the reason for adding Melafix, never has a fungal infection been mentioned. Maracyn is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is used to trea...

"String of Pearls" look to poop is one of the indicators for IP's. I'd start treating.

Re: Dried Prepared Food Warning: Ethoxyquin
This has been being used in food since the 1950's and there has been harsh debate on both sides. On the against side most of the information is anecdotal repeated information that lean back to a letter that was written to the FDA by a holistic veterinarian. There is however a few studies done that s...

Re: live rock
DIY LR is a nice way to go and I've done it. For the hassle I would go the route of finding some LR on Craigs List and then buy some Eco Rock (not harvested from oceans) and use that. The older LR will seed the Eco Rock.

Re: traveling
If you are traveling with the fish you can claim it as carryon and keep it with you. You will have to have it checked but if it is claimed as valuable live pet you should be able to take it with you. Styrofoam box, a large breather bag and air. 1/3 water, 2/3 air and low heat. Water needs to stay a ...
