Re: Puffer Shelter - Hobby?

I think not from the LFS' but from other area keepers. Akin to the betta adoption and GF adoption programs that are out there.

Rehab and re-sell.

Re: Need confirmation I'm doing this okay :)

to keep the math simple, do 10 gallon changes. And assume it is a 20 gal tank. When you think you're at the 1.006 ~ 1.008 mark, take the tank readings more carefully, and ease off until you're above 1.012. Then back on schedule and start to ease off again above 1.020 and keep reading that tank. In t...

Re: Which puffer for 30g

your choices are large. It depends on what your LFS can get.

Find out what you can obtain first, and then research the care requirements.

Re: Which puffer for 30g

+1 to bertie 83 comments. As a general rule what ever the tank volume is, we subtract 30% of that for substrate, and decor (tank volume x .70) . In this case it seems to be more. Most likely under 20 gals... closer to 15 ~ 17?

Re: Fahaka Help

this should be moved to the hospital. I know we're having a heat wave here, what is the temp and tank temp over there?

How is the surface movement of the water? You mentioned that you don't have the spray bar, are there at some ripples and constant movement at the surface for gas exchange?

A fan blowing across the surface so it ripples a bit will help also.

Freezing puffer foods.

I know it is typically thought that freezing foods solid will kill any nasties that arrive with it, but is that really the case? http://dsc.discovery.com/tv-shows/frozen-planet/videos/woolly-bear-caterpillars.htm I just saw this video and it really makes me wonder. Oh... BTW wait for the comment at ...

Re: GSP with skin problems!

i´ve heard about melafix ¿do you know the active ingredients? Tea tree oil made by the company API now. If your friend is on well water, I'd go QT, a hose in, and a hose out and continuously change the water. Treat with anti-fungal and anti-bacterial meds. Although some would be of the mindset that...

Re: Lathargic GSP hanging out by filter and lying down all day.

actually, that puff looks really good. they do turn dark when sleeping and kind of camo themselves. I think you're doing an excellent job. Once you upgrade, I am certain more decor will help so he can have a peaceful place to rest. IMO (in my opinion) it was kind of a panic attack to the dark colors...

Re: Lathargic GSP hanging out by filter and lying down all day.

the only thing you can do at the moment is the water changes. If you can do 50% daily and the puff is doing better that is great. If not, than 2x 30% will be the same. It depends on how much time you have on your hands. As it is feeling ill you can consider it a full time job. See if you can't pick ...

Re: Lathargic GSP hanging out by filter and lying down all day.

SG would be 1.000 ;) That is FW :) Do 50% tonight before bed and another 50% tomorrow. The min. size for the tank is 30 gals and we'll help you increase the salt level to its optimum condition once you have upgraded. Needless to say, the sooner the better. I don't want to be the harbinger of doom, b...

Re: Lathargic GSP hanging out by filter and lying down all day.

the tank seems to be going through a cycle. keep up with the water changes. How big is the tank and what is the spicific gravity (SG)? aka the salt level?
