Re: Canister question!

You don't have to drill the tank, you can use the method of a siphon, but if there's a power outage, you might end up with water everywhere... I run a Fluval 405 on a 75 and I love it (also a large spong filter and AC70 for surface agitation)... I really like my filtration. I also have a Fluval 305 ...

Re: Aquaclear 70 hob help

I have to do that for some of my really old ones but shouldn't, for a brand new one. Yes, it does need to be filled with water, 1st but after started, the impeller shouldn't be rattling. Mine don't rattle or anything, just need a little kick in the impellar sometimes lol.... In my experience and op...

Re: Lighting for GSP?

I had timers on my salt and planted tank, but they'd reset if there was a power outage, so I canned them. I just make sure to turn the lights on at roughly the same time everyday (or my roommate if I'm not home). I don't think that a half hour or hour (if even that long) of variance in your light cy...

Re: Aquaclear 70 hob help

I just want to add to this. I have 6 of these running (3-110's, 2-30's and a 70). 3 of them have to be "kick" started anytime the power goes off or I turn them off. Don't unplug or disconnect anything... The trick is to get a skinny stick (I use a pen), move the intake tube over with your ...

Re: losing zoas....need crab id

Does he have black claws? Nope his claws are the same color as the rest of his body. I sumped his butt this morning because I am sick of loosing all of my frags. I am sure that it is either this guy or my peppermint shrimp. I tried to catch the shrimp for hours last night with no luck. I guess I wi...

Re: Very rare fish

Such a rare fish IMO does not belong in an aquarium. It belongs in the wild. With rare species even one specimen can make a significant difference in it's survival. It all depends if it's rare in the wild, or simply rare in the aqua trade. I would say that if it's rare in the trade, then no worries...

Re: Sports and Work!

This could be fun. I play: Hockey, football (touch), basketball and softball (played hardball as a teen). I also lift weights 5-6 times a week. I love it. Hobbies.... FISH, of course. I have 9 tanks running at the moment. I also love to golf... I guess that's a sport ;-) Work: Currently, I'm a Prog...

Re: What can I use to clean a tank?

It all depends how good you can rinse the tank... I've used a tiny cap of bleach (please don't get on my case here guys) with a big pail of HOT water. It worked for me. Just make sure you rinse the tank multiple times, let dry and do it again. ( I rinsed mine serisouly 15-20 times ). Also, you might...

Big poop on top & the rest winds up broken down into the substrate. Don't laugh at the disco gravel: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/Pufferpunk/Pufferpics/125Fahakatanknewlydecorated.jpg Nice tank PP! Do you ever feel that your Fahaka is crowded by all the stuff in the tank? Mine is in a...

Re: Experienced puffer owners????

My Fahaka has puffed only once (that I've seen) and it was just one random morning. Came downstairs, and I was like whaaaat? Oh, he's puffed! He basically deflated once he saw me.

As for my Ceylon... Never. He's an angry/mean fish, but has never puffed (that I've seen) in 5 years.

Re: ID on a clownfish

Just do remember that clownfish are not really nice little fish. They commonly are cute to beautiful, and have teeth like scalpels. My stainless steel chainmail gloves were purchased for working in clown tanks. IME, Tomatoes are among the top three finger shredders. Unfortunately they are great fis...

Re: ok... this will sound stupid...

ahhh but there in lies the pith... Peacock Mantis shrimp have "clubs" for claws. They will compete for the same shell food as the puffer. Other other type of Mantis shrimp are called "spearers" which are piscavores and eat live fish. The problem is the fact that the Peacock Mant...
