Meet porkchop (Not a puffer)

So Ive raise up my little Porkchop since October 2012 when I got her at 5". I really have not sexed it but Im leaning toward female because of its personality. When I had introduced a confirmed male with 'her' a while back, he got beat down. So might be a really tough girl or a male. Porkchop w...

Re: The Wet Spot??????????

The Wet Spot is one of my favorite fish stores for sure. My wife and I drive down to Portland, Oregon about twice a year for weekend getaways. We like to go because they have no sales tax and we will stock up and do some shopping. Its about a two hour drive from Tacoma, Washington but well worth it....

Re: Free $$$!

I just won a $25 gift certificate on a site for writing product reviews. Of course I spent way more than that when a redeemed it so a win for the company too. I encourage people to enter these types of contests because you can win, and the odds are quite good because many times there are not that ma...

Re: The Story of Hank the Mbu Puffer.

I got to see Hank for the first time at Cory's shop before the 340 gallon tank broke and he was a beautiful fish for sure. I have not made it back up there to see his new tank, but it is a BIG tank! I think it has a 4' x 6' footprint. I sometimes click on the 'Hank cam' at the store and check him ou...

Re: HELP! All new to me-what to put in a 40B

Nice answer, your puffer was secretly listen in and piggy approves  I have had very personable cichlids over the years and never doubted being able to take care of them. But when it comes to puffers I too just have that feeling of doubt, like they would be too much to handle. Dont know why but...

Re: HELP! All new to me-what to put in a 40B

He has a heck of a lot of personality though, I wouldn't swap him for the world. That being said, if you had to do it all over again would you still pick a hairy puffer or another? Like I said I have access to a hairy puffer, at a high cost or I can try and wait it out for one of the other lurkers ...

Re: HELP! All new to me-what to put in a 40B

Been bit a few times by large cichlids and drew blood but nothing like that. I have a pretty tame bunch of fish so a puffer will keep me on my toes. Just need to be aware where my hands are and were the puffer is. But then they are surprisingly fast...

Re: Leaky CoralLife 36 Watt UV x2

I had to reply to this because I too had the same unit and it was a leaker. Mine leaked at the screw on barb fitting and I was sent a new seal kit. This did not turn out to be the problem. The plastic used on this is a very hard plastic that is almost brittle and mine had developed a small hairline ...

Re: HELP! All new to me-what to put in a 40B

If you can house a fahaka then get one. They are by far the meanest/coolest puffer to keep. I am just twitching to get another one. Obviously the 40 would be no good for this but you are clearly aware of this Ive got my 210g which would be an awesome home for a Fahaka but then my little 'Porckchop'...

He's beautiful. And Frilly. Can't beat a happy pink fish with frills.
Is this the same 'piggy' that thought it needed some 'finger foods'?

They really are cool but a bit too expensive for me right now, though I could always sell an organ or something....

Re: New to the forum

The problem I see is that I will still want a Fahaka puffer somewhere along the line, so another tank would be required and I dont have any space for one and my wife would kill me. Im sure no one else has that problem.... But I should be happy with the three tanks I have, but there is always j...

Re: New to the forum

The Fahaka knew exactly what was going on outside its tank and interacted with me quite a bit. Probably on par with my cichlids if not more so.

Re: HELP! All new to me-what to put in a 40B

Thanks for all the good information. Just found another puffer available, Tetraodon palembangensis. This one would still cost in terms of shipping but much more affordable. One of my major concerns was the teeth issue and the need for hard foods. Seems like my list of possible puffers is one where t...

Re: New to the forum

Thank you for the welcome. I watched a Fahaka for quite a while in the store and watching it try and bite me through the glass was the moment I knew a puffer was in my future. Well not that big a puffer, but a puffer none the less.

Re: HELP! All new to me-what to put in a 40B

most (not necessarily all) store bought crab is cooked be sure that any seafood is uncooked/raw when fed to puffers Thank you for that info. One thing Ive seen fed that i would consider is live crayfish. Problem is from my understanding of my states law (Washington) these can not be kept. I am goin...
