avocado puffer & seeds???

So I know someone who just got a Auriglobus modestus and all the info out there on them mentions they eat seeds in the wild, on top of the usual insects and crustaceans. What kind of seeds could you try? Or would you just not bother? I figure they would benefit since I've also read they are prone to...

Re: help me save red-eye puffer!

So a lot has been going on with him and the tank the past week. This guy is a glutten! However, the new insanely messy food I give him to fatten him up hasn't raised my nitrates so I'm happy. I have to work on a video, hopefully while feeding just cause that's the most fun. I'm questioning him and t...

Re: help me save red-eye puffer!

So I got some new worms for him to try! I wanted to get the smaller red earthworms but they must have been old cause there was fuzzy mold on the soil and some worms were oozing out. Needless to say I didn't get those. I did get some nightcrawlers though. Knowing they are very large I was a little co...

Re: help me save red-eye puffer!

Yea, they were going to be more as a treat so he can hunt them. My good LFS offers small quantities for cheap. I've also always heard that they have some sort of laxative affect. Is there any truth to this?

Re: help me save red-eye puffer!

I was thinking of just getting a very small order of mealworms and only giving him the smaller younger ones that are supposed to be softer. Plus I plan on cracking/crushing them a little anyways. I do want to try gut loading them with some algae/veggie wafers and color enhancing flakes, along with t...

Re: help me save red-eye puffer!

How about a few mealworms to fatten him up a bit? I have to go to Petsmart later anyways.

*and just found some worms! What can I gutload these guys with? Veggies, algae, fish food, meaty foods???

Re: help me save red-eye puffer!

the damn bait & tackle place was closed when I went so I'll try early morning before work. I don't have much of a yard to dig up either. But some good news! What he didn't eat yesterday he more than made up for it today. I gave him the mix I tried the first night, just with more blackworms and h...

Re: help me save red-eye puffer!

I'm looking for a bait&tackle shop near me online. I would assume this would be the best place to get them? Then just rinse them thoroughly?

Would it be bad to fill him up so soon? Should I let his stomach grow back slowly?

help me save red-eye puffer!

Long story short, I rescued what the previous owner swore was a Borneo puffer (I am aware of the rarity). He also claims to have owned a Salivator previously. So at least he is aware of other dwarf puffers and red-eyes. I will post a pic at the bottom after I write my novel. I'm torn on whether it i...

Re: DP acting weird...then died

Whoops, forgot this forum doesn't post that in my info. It's a 10G, heavily planted, pH is slightly above neutral, mild hardness. I keep the temp around 77. Do weekly ~1/3 WCs. The tank has been up and running for a couple of years now. I've had the puffers for about a year. The other one is fine. N...

DP acting weird...then died

My smaller dwarf puffer was having issues and I wasn't sure why. I check the tank every morning and night but only saw strange signs 2 days ago. She physically looked normal. No markings/lacerations, enlarged body parts, pop-eyes, not even discoloring or a sunken belly. However, she was originally s...
