Re: my tanks (1)
Aside from the cycling issue, I just wanted to say that the tank and filter/sump are awesome. Makes my 150 gal/35 gal sump look kinda ghetto! lol.

Re: weight of rock in tank
+1 to all the above which specify that rock is heavier (more dense) than water. It is. But weight distribution is important. The biggest +1 goes to Flitter who specified that weight distribution does matter. It does, a lot. The danger from rock is mostly uneven weight distribution - small-point pre...

Re: weight of rock in tank
Total guess here... But I don't think you can "put too much" rock in a tank. Water is heavier than rock (more dense), so in my opinion, whatever water you displace with rock, will end up bringing the total weight of the setup down, albeit slightly. Someone please correct me if this doesn't...

Re: Piscivorous fish
My fahaka eats pellets. Not as a staple, but he does get some in his/her diet. market shrimp crayfish (breeding in a 55 gallon) rams snails (breeding in a 10 & 20 gallon) and some pellets as a treat maybe once a week or two. You don't want to use pellets as a staple because they can pollute the ...

Re: White tubes - What are they?
The Sabellidae with non-calcareous tubes. It's a type of worm. I have TONS in my tank. They're a good part of your clean up crew.

Re: de-rimming a tank questions
I'd be afraid the glass was gonna split at the seams, without the rim. You don't have to be afraid of that... I have done this with a few tanks. From a 10 gal up to a 55 gallon. Actually, my planted tank looks a lot like the pics posted here. I like the look!! I don't think a small piece of plastic...

BINGO!
I have a single Ceylon in a 55 gallon. Upgrade the tank size to a 75 min in my opinion. Feeding once a day is enough. Cut back to 3-4 days a week once they're 3 inches or so.

Re: Crayfish breeding.
As of this morning one of the crayfish has molted and one has taken up permanent residence under one of the rocks. (Doesn't come out anymore when i feed them) Possible sign of baby crays on the way? Sounds to me like the one that's hiding could be berried! Mine won't come out of hiding for a good 2...

Re: ceylon
I have one. It's about 5 years old now. Always been in a 55 gallon. It's about the size of a small Nerf football, 6 inches or so long. They live in fresh water for the first year (ish) and then you have to start moving them to high end brackish, even full marine. Mine is currently in a tank with the...

That's one sweet looking tank. You should pick up a couple peppermint shrimp to take care of any aiptasia. I think I saw some in a few of the pics?

Re: Water Change.
My fahaka just goes into his corner until I'm done. Doesn't stress him out at all.
I have another tank with some tiger barbs... They love water changes. They always swim into the current of new water that I'm dumping in.

Re: New Generation of Crayfish
It happens. For some reason, they don't always molt properly. I've only had it happen to the large adults (3-4"). It seems like they get halfway through the molt and their body splits. Pretty weird. Maybe it's the way they die of old age... Make sure you feed them to your puffer before they get...
