Re: Dwarf puffer help
Although your setup looks nice I still don't think a 3 gallon bowl is the best for a DP. Once you take into account displacement how much water is "really" in there? 2 gallons? 2 1/2? Its not just about keeping the water clean its also about space, there just isn't a lot of room. Bowls als...

Re: Dwarf puffer help
I may be misunderstanding something, but a fish bowl is not really an appropriate home for a puffer. How many gallons does it hold? is it heated and filtered?

Re: Dwarf puffer help
Fish can't chew their food - it's not uncommon for many fish to take in big pieces of food, spit it out,and then do it again until they are full or the food is gone. Your puffer looks good in the pics but if you are worried about parasites you can always treat him. Treating for parasites when they d...

Fat Belly spells trouble!
So I woke up this morning to my red-eye puffer sporting a fat, full belly. Yup, turns out he managed to eat an amano shrimp. Pretty impressive considering the size difference lol!

Re: Hi Forum ppl :) Toronto Puffers here ^_^
If you haven't fed frozen before, here's what I do. I'm sure there are lots of ways to feed frozen, this is just what works best for me. I take one cube and put it in a small tupperware container with a lid and add a small amount of water from the tank and leave it for a few minutes until it thaws. ...

Re: Hi Forum ppl :) Toronto Puffers here ^_^
Thank you for the info on Malaysian trumpet snails, pollypuff! We are going to try those, as our LFS is willing to give us some this weekend. I really want to get a nice snail population going, as our DPs do not seem to like their freeze dried munchies :) I would try frozen, not freeze dried. Puffe...

Re: Dwarf Puffers & Bamboo Shrimp?
I have amanos with mine and they have been fine. Fine meaning, the puffers still try to nip at them but the amanos are good at sticking up for themselves. I'm not familiar with ghost shrimp, the size sounds about right but if they are timid shrimp then I wouldn't risk it.

Re: Hi Forum ppl :) Toronto Puffers here ^_^
HI welcome fellow Canadian! I'm also in TO! As Pufferpunk said, 6 is too many for a 20 gallon. I have 2 in my 20 but I would say three is max. As for snails, I tried to breed pond snails for my puffs but it was impossible to keep up. I have Malaysian trumpet snails in all my puffer tanks and that wo...

Re: I dont want to risk my DPs lives..
It was very, very dusty. I wonder if I got an old bag.. but where I bought it is the only place to buy it. I have 25lbs left. Have considered letting it soakd for a week.. or| even emptying my 10 gallon... putting it in there and filling it up, let that cheap filter run with some carbon and mechani...

Re: DP wasting away
Well my little puffer passed away. Last night she was doing ok, she had one meal of live brine shrimp in the morning, I saw her eat a snail that afternoon, and I fed her some mysis shrimp. I left for dinner and 2 hours later came home and she was gone.

If your filter has cycled media in it you should be ok. Test the water before you put the fish back in for ammonia, sometimes ammonia can build up in the substrate and taking it all out will release it into the tank.
