Re: Dwarf puffer tank mates!
Do you think there could be a chance the puffers will be stressed by catfish roaming around at night? And vice versa in daytime? Will puffers nip on fish sleeping in caves? The tank is 112 litres, and yeah, it's really too small for SAE, so I would have to buy juveniles and give them away when they ...

Dwarf puffer tank mates!
I've been considering tank mates for my 5 dwarf puffs and 4 amanos for several months now. I already know the risk, so I have a backup plan. How do you think it would work out with some Tatia perugiae (oil/driftwood catfish)? Nocturnal, very fast moving, peaceful, and - looks almost like a puffer!! ...

Re: Is this ick? Dwarf puffer
Happy new year! Treatment was aborted, lesson learnt - don't act too hastily. The puffers and the shrimp are doing good, no harm done, hopefully. The spot on the male puffer slowly disappeared over a few days - it's all gone now. You posted a link about heat and salt treatment, thank you. I h...

Re: Is this ick? Dwarf puffer
Thanks for your reply, PP! Aah... I decided to start treating... Silly me, I should have been more patient. The spot looked so much like what I have seen in photos of ick, and from what I've read it can be only a single or few spots at first. Oh well, this is my first time with some sort of d...

Re: Is this ick? Dwarf puffer
1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate). Temperature 25-26 Celsius - stable, normal pH 7 - stable, normal GH 5 dH - stable, normal NO3 not measured, was 7 ppm (normally 2-10 ppm) on Dec 22, when the spot was discovered. NO2 0, was 0.025 on Dec 22 - did...

Is this ick? Dwarf puffer
My male dwarf puffer has a small white, somewhat protruding spot on his dorsal fin - see photo. Is this ick? I have Esha Exit (and Esha 2000) at hand - is it safe to just treat the tank with this, even if it should turn out not to be ick?

Re: DP newbie, tons of questions!
Five months ago I got my first fish ever - six DPs in a 30 gallons tank. They are all doing well, and are housed with four amano shrimp. The only thing that has been difficult, is a couple of very picky individuals with respect to feeding. So make sure that you can provide live food, at least occasi...

Re: Bloodworm stuck in DPs mouth!
another update: I did not treat them yet, as I doubt that IPs is the problem. But the happy news is that they are both eating now! I'm almost shocked by the skinniest one, how he has started behaving more like the others - he is not hiding like he did before, he comes to greet me, and he eats and ge...

Re: Bloodworm stuck in DPs mouth!
Thanks for the advice! Some days ago I did just what you siuggested, I started cutting the bloodworms into small pieces, and it really helped for the one with the problem of worms getting stuck. Now she is much more excited when I come with food, and she eats some, but not much. And the starving one...

Re: Bloodworm stuck in DPs mouth!
Hello again! Unfortunately, I have to bring up this topic again. I have two picky puffs. One of them still doesn't want to eat anything but snails, and I'm having so much problems with the snail breeding that I can't offer him enough to eat. And it is impossible to get any other live food around her...

Re: DPs and Otocinclus
Yes indeed, I know that otos are fragile. My tank was cycled for 5 weeks before introducing the puffers, and it's been 3 months with stable parameters and clean water. I do approx. 50 % weekly water changes. I'm in doubt here, since I have no backup tank in case it does not work out. I'd love to hav...

My tank is shown in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=37&t=34710&p=357883#p357883. A bit old picture maybe, but it's not changed that much.

Re: DPs and Otocinclus
Tank size is 112 litres, heavily planted, roots, stones. I posted a photo before, can try to find it. 6 Dps, 4 shrimp. The shrimp were added after the DPs (DPs 3 months ago, shrimp in Easter). Two DPs seem to be mature, the others are "teenagers". One of the smaller has developed eye wrink...

DPs and Otocinclus
I've read many places that otos may go well with dwarf puffers. Do any of you have experience with introducing otos to a DP tank? Which Otocinclus species would be better, if there is any difference with regard to how they cope with DPs? I have 6 DPs with 4 amano shrimp in that tank. All the DPs lea...
