Zebra Mussels
Has anyone ever tried zebra mussels for puffer food before? I live right on the water, and i can easily pluck hundreds of these in a matter of minutes. I'm not worried about parasites as i would QT for months, or freeze them, but what about the sharp edges? The lakes in my area are reasonably clean,...

When I do, I go to Red-Fish Blue-Fish. I don't know if they are still open as they weren't doing so well last summer (my last visit). Ya red fish blue fish is still around. They are in that strip mall on Chemong road across from the dairy queen-country style combo. Its a really small store now, i t...

Re: Building up my first FW tank
"Bad" is a very useful word. But to say that you got "bad" wood from a store when the real issue is that you did knot know how to properly handle the wood that you got. You had, and may still have bad information, not bad wood. If you want realistic wood in a fish tank w/o any t...

Nope. I go to Peterborough for my fish stuff most of the time. There or Toronto. Belleville has got jack squat, the next good one is in Trenton but that is too far to drive. Oh ok, what fish store do you go to in Peterborough. Before i just went to pet-a-rama, but there is a new place in Bridgnorth...

Re: Building up my first FW tank
RTR, "bad" is a very general word which anything can be referred to as from a given point of view. From our point of view having heavily tannin stained water is "bad" because we are going for a clear water look. What's good to someone is bad to others. I stand by what I said beca...

Re: Brackish Water Plants
I just added two healthy java fern plants to my brackish tank (1.005), so I'm hoping they will do well. I have them attached to little rocks using sewing thread. Does anyone know of the light requirements of java fern in brackish water? Its a 25 gallon tank standard height (not a long tank), I have ...

Re: Building up my first Brackish Tank
Ya plus driftwood will likely rot faster in brackish. I tried mopani wood once and it really started to stink, fast. That's why I use plastic mangrove roots from Petsmart...Doesn't look quite as good but will last much longer without any water problems. Also, Luked, how do you plan to mix your BW w...

Re: Building up my first Brackish Tank
Is that the drift wood that leaks tannins? If it is DON"T USE IT! It makes your water look like tea. It doesn't hurt fish, but makes your water softer and very murky. Test it by leaving it in a bowl of water over night. It may well be, however that is why I'm soaking it in boiling water, possi...
