Re: Mixing Salt/Tank Maintenance
I mix saltwater with a powerhead and heater for 24hours minimum. Just to be sure. I have a large holding vat that holds enough for 2 water changes and a bit spare just in case. If you are on the ball you can have a mixing tank smaller and do regular water changes that way, this will not leave you pr...

Re: Treatments for new Puffer?
The fishless cycle often takes no longer to complete, often less as you can control the ammonia going in to a high concentrate allowing the bacteria to colonise not only quickly but effectively. Plus no fish have to go through the drama. You can order most meds on line, jungle fizz tabs are the most...

Re: Treatments for new Puffer?
How have you cycled the tank? It's always good practice to treat puffers for internal parasites, find a med you can soak their food in and add some crushed garlic to mask the taste. Pick a big healthy one with a rounded tummy, although likely dominant you stand a much better chance of getting them a...

Re: New 200 Litre Tank Set-up Plans?
Nice, tried mollies in my reef but my wrasse loves the taste of them. Only 1 large boring coloured male survived. Might try more might not. Looking forward to pics

Need more info on the set up, tankmates and how your water tests read. Could be stress or a million other things to be honest

Re: Brackish Tank Set Up
Iliveinazoo pretty much covered it. You will need to drill to fit that filter afaik. Many have luck with bumblebee gobies, they are great at cleaning up leftover shredded puffer food. I would recommend putting tons of hiding places for them and definitely add them first. Good luck and keep us update...

Re: GSP tank converting to full marine.
If ammo and nitrite remain at 0 throughout this whole process, how can the tank crash? Small fish big tank, dilution is your friend here. Push the salinity too far and all the bacteria will die, this leaves you with an uncycled tank with a bio-load. Bad news. Hold where you are and allow the tank t...

Re: Valentini tankmates 30g
I agree with pp. long nose hawk is one of my favourite fish too. My large longnose worked with my Valentini but the hawk was well established prior to adding the puffer, he was also much bigger and wouldn't take stick from anything else

This collection point is on a platform, so not right at the shore. The water is deep there on a high tide. There are tons of fish swimming there too.

Natural sea water
Just wondering if anyone here uses nsw. Got a great spot 15 min drive from my house where the water tests great! Can pump it straight into the containers by the car too. Met loads of reef keepers there swearing by how much better their tank looks etc. I personally just want to save some money and do...

Re: GSP tank converting to full marine.
+1. Quickest way to cause a tank crash. Keep a very close eye on the tank. You can drip acclimate a fish in a few hours, not a tank
