Re: Wall backings

I love the look of those things. When i've looked at diy 3d backgrounds they use a special type of paint, so it might be worth giving it a spruce up?

Re: Going f8

Thanks @pyru I love new reading material!!! The first link was awesome and spoke directly to my question lol and the second, on real f8 habitat and such I had just read yesterday (and was a really cool one imo). Do you still keep f8's? I appreciate all of the help from everyone, after doing more re...

Re: Going f8

I have read about every figure 8 post on this site but still feel nervous and uneasy about my capabilities (I have been Fw my whole hobby). LONG story short, I wanted a type of puffer that is no longer an option in the states. My husband has been sick of listening to the puffer stuff for at least t...

Re: The enigma of "optimal" F8 salinity level...

There was someone on this forum that posted a photo of a Figure 8 in its natural habitat. I'm 'almost' sure that the salinity was around SG1.002 but I can't remember what the temperature was. They most likely are predominantly freshwater fish that travel into estuaries every now and again. I would a...

Re: Golden wonder killifish (tank- raised strain of aplocheilus lineatus) in brackish?

I looked at having them for my Figure 8 tank but my concern was the Killifish being too aggressive. At the time there was a member on here who said that he/she had them previously and the combination worked. I didn't get them because I plan on adding some Bumblebee Gobies when I find them in the fut...

Re: Filter(s) for 29 gallon figure 8 tank - Help!

Thanks for replying. So even if I do go canister, you'd still suggest running 2 filters. It's the cost that's getting to to me which is why nothing is set up yet, might as well do it right even if it means staring at an empty tank. Would a penn plax canister be ok? Looks like the 1000 would provide...

You could have up to 2 dwarf puffers or a shrimp tank?

Re: Filter(s) for 29 gallon figure 8 tank - Help!

I've not used that filter so can't really comment, The only internal filter that I've used was a Fluval on my old Mudskipper tank but unfortunately I can't remember the model. It was a decent unit and did run quiet enough to be housed in my bedroom. I am not trying to persuade you to go canister ove...

Re: Hello from Singapore. Accidental Figure 8 owner!

I'm pretty sure that Cardinals require more acidic conditions so pH 6-7 rather than what your puffer will want - more pH 7-8. Your puffer will be fine for a few days without food, if I'm going away for 4-5 days then I'll just feed well on the day that I leave and he won't be fed again until I get ba...

Re: any help appreciated!!

you probably want about 50 litres volume per puffer. 'Overfiltering' is a weird term really, if people are thinking about overfiltering to cope with overstocking then they should really buy a bigger tank. I would go for either a single canister or 2 cannisters that provide about 10x volume of the ta...

Re: Hello from Singapore. Accidental Figure 8 owner!

Hello Vickyboi, Your current water chemistry may not be compatible with your Figure 8 and the pacing could mean that he/she is trying to escape. If your Tetras are thriving then your puffer will be struggling because Tetras require soft acidic water and your puffer requires hard alkaline water. What...

Re: SICK FISHY

Sorry that your first post is under such circumstances but: 1. What type of puffer? 2. A 1 gallon tank is too small for any puffer. 3. You need to know more than pH, you need to know ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and hardness as well but ammonia and nitrite are by far the most important. 4. All tanks ne...

Re: Wild caught food

I would give it a miss because the wildlife in Britain's waterways are struggling. Why not dig a decent sized wildlife pond instead and seed it with snails and any other little critters you want in there?
