Try 80% water changes, every other day. Plecos (as do puffers) die easily from meds. Add Melafix to sooth their skin.

Yes, puffers can stress easily & stop eating. Please if you can, set up a seperate 30g tank for them (for now)--a 55+ gallpn should be your goal. Read the info about them in our Library.

Did you add the fish the same time as the B-S? Are you sure it was refrigerated all the time? You might want to test the water elseware, just to be sure. A water change couldn't hurt. Is he still eating?

Carbon should not be necessary on a QT. Absolutely remove carbon whenever you use meds. It will say so on the bottle of Melafix also.

We do not consider Melafix a "medicine", per say, at this forum. It is recommended highly here. The only problem using it in a SW tank is w/a skimmer. BTW, if you have no LR or any other kind of filtration in your QT, then you need to keep a close eye on water parameters & change water...

Polish, why do you ask? If you are looking for tank mates for your puffer, then you'll be looking at a larger tank than 30g for them. In a 20g, there is no room for any more fish, as it will be even too small for your puffer eventually, for swimming space & the bioload your puffer will put out.

The "rule" is 2-3 gallons per DP, but I'm no expert.
Actually, it's 3-5g/DP.

A longer tank is better than a tall tank. Can you imagine a 6" blimp being able to swim in there? Rescuing a fish isn't always the best thing. Now he won't have enough room to grow. Maybe by the time he is a little larger you'll be able to better house him?

Mealworms are extremely fatty & should be fed very infrequently. Do you have a better pic of your puffer?
