I just assumed all your levels were zero. Because your levels on all the required nutrients should be negligible if you're not adding them. THen did the calculations based upon what tank size I have and the animals I had in there. I keep the nitrates on the low end to try and maximize the health of ...

You could make your own ferts by getting the chemicals in powder form and adding to distilled water with added trace element mix instead of a comercial brand which is generally a broad spectrum type dose. Witht he powder form you can adjust the mix yourself to get what works for your tank specifica...

Are you adding any Nitrate, phosphate, or potassium? I had the same melting problems you are having until I started adding the macro ferts. I started getting some hair algae problems becuase I haven't worked out the balance of the nitrates and phospates though. Check out http://www.aquaticplantcentr...

....this goes without saying but you really do need to get the nitrates lower. My guess is that its a result of overfeeding and that leftover food it laying around in the tank. Either you feed less, find something to eat the scraps, or continue to do large water changes. If you can find them add in ...

There are several different copper remedies out there. I used copper power with my porc and he's fine. Pay attention to the copper levels though, 2ppm is enough to kill the parasite - so dont exceed that. The problem I had was getting rid of the copper in the tank. It took me a month using Poly Filt...

than the higher-end, more expensive ones. Scientific and professional optical equipment is expensive, and to make consumer-market versions corners are invariably cut. Lab grade hand-held refractometers can run up to $1K. Counter top refractometers are usually in the $5-6K range. Both are used on ma...

You're right they are a voracious eater. I've only had mine for a few days, but I've also noticed that the amount of waste coming out of this fish is huge! I've got about a dozen hermit crabs in there but I'm still looking at getting a litte hand-held batttery vacuum just to clean up the mess a litt...

The background is a light blue, metallic, textured background that I found at http://www.aquariumguys.com , they have a couple of them in different colors that all look pretty cool. Currently in the 90, but in Feb/March of next year we are getting a 120/125/150 and are going to get rid of all of our...

He's a real beauty!!!! The instant my wife saw him she agreed that he had to come home with us!!! We were setting up at a new 90g salt (with overflow and 20g sump)and we were actually trying to think of what to put in. This is the first time we've had a tank without knowing immediately what we would...

I'm actually going to be moving very soon. The last time I moved I actually left most of the substrate in the tank and lifted the tank off the stand and on to a dolley right next to the tank. Rolled the dolley to the truck and quickly lifted it into the truck. Did the reverse when unloading. I know ...
