thank you, both of you. I really hope I did everything I could. At least he lasted longer than the F8. I've just never seen a fish have so many things wrong in such a short amount of time.

Ok, here's an update, rather sad. Diddy got progressively worse and died last night. I checked water parameters as I did every week, and they were fine: pH 7.8, nitrIte 0, ammonia 0 and nitrAte 5.0. thank you, I will do. Though if it's nitrItes, I've no idea what's happened. The tank's been stable for many weeks now, more than regular water changes and no real change to contents other than fungus meds.

This is exactly why I don't understand how he's got it. He has minimum 50% water changes per week, usually more.

Yeah, I've been slowly changing him to brackish (dunno if you remember Diddy). I kinda got into a habit of regular water changes, so his water's spotless at all times anyway - hence I was confused why he'd got this. Glad it's common and treatable - will add melafix instead then. Thanks

RTR, Diddy's a 2" GSP. He's active, feeding, and looks perfectly healthy, and this band appears only after he's been playing in the root system - it actually fades to nothing while you're watching!
